How many losses is 1 hit? In retreats and bombarding ships and transports i always see that, but how to measure it?

Hi Beren

Each unit type can have different number of hits.
Check the Unit detail panel (clicking on any element icon) and you will see how many hits that elements has (each little men figure=hit).
It depends of the unit type, but for an infantry element in AACW its usually 20 hits per element. So, speaking in men its like 30 men/hit for a full strengh 600 men regiment.
Ships, guns and other kind of units have different numbers of hits. Ironclads have a lot more than transports.
Bear in mind that hits is the "real thing", what the game uses on combat calculations.
Numbers of men/guns/horses are just some flavour added over the hits so the battles results are more inmersive and interesting for the players.

When a passing fleet is bombarded, the hits inflicted by the enemy guns are divide among the units of the stacks. That's why its safer to pass forts with big fleets. Lone units can get destroyed as they will sustain all the hits.

Cheers!
