Outer Banks

Sat Aug 23, 2008 8:56 pm

I've found that when the USA (me) attacks the forts in the Outer Banks it attracts the attention of up to corps sized CSA units. I've had Lee appear out there, and in current game Longstreet has brought a corps to play. They are now besieging my small division in the fort. One problem seems to be that it would be really tough to support corps sized units on those tiny islands, but not a real big deal. Second issue is the AoP is moving in on Richmond (Fredericksburg has fallen) and the Army of the James is over half way up the Peninsula. Finally there are land jump links between the forts, but given the geography these key inlets could be blocked by naval forces (not easy but possible, and also I'd assume the guns in the forts would blast the rafts trying to cross). What I'd like to know is does the idea of removing the jumplinks between the forts/islands make sense? Would it also remove the desire of the AI to move major forces into a very minor theatre? Would love to hear anyone elses thoughts. This is something that also cropped up when I was working on naval mod items (yes I'm going to resurrect that, but take it in a new direction....but that is for another day)

I think if you station a blockade squadron there they won't be able to attack you.

Good idea, adds even more things to consider from a naval perspective. I also realized that cutting links would hinder resupply which would be easy to do even if US ships were waiting outside. Pamlico Sound would still be open.
