Apologies, Fort Question

Thu Jun 19, 2008 1:18 am

Searched all over -- with latest patch, to build a fort I need 4 batteries, 2 wagons. Do the batteries have to be a certain size (not light)?

City size matter?

Can't build a fort in new orleans, but I'm using 6lb guns......confirm for me?

Thanks!

As far as I know, gun size does not matter. and you can build them anywhere. Even outside a city I believe. Although I'm not totally sure about that second part.

6lb guns are the most cost effective way of building forts.
But forts can only be built on cities. Depots instead can be built anywhere.

A little side track here, but can forts be built on the small harbor blocks? I have be meaning to build Fort Henry :8o: (at least that is what the region name says), but I always end up using the arty and supply in other areas instead.

Correct me if I'm mstaken but don't you "need" to build a fort to cover New Orleans' rear at Lafayette Sound? There's coastal waters all the way up and around that a Union pbem player could use to by-pass the pre-war forts. Anyways, there's some ideal spots to block that direction, but can you only build "inside" a city? If so, that kind of limits your options.

It seems that way btw - tested - should be in the manual.

Puting a stack with some good guns in it and giving them time to entrench to level 4 would allow the stack to fire on passing ships.
It's not a proper fort but any 4+ entrenched battery (even with just field guns) can do considerable damage to ships trying to bypass the position.
Well, also you must remember to click the "bombard button" :siffle:
Cheers
