Siege, how to brake it?

In a PBEM game I'm playing the enemy is besieging me. I have a decent lot of troops, and don't think he will beat me in battle. What I am wondering is: If I don't react will the walls brake and will he eventually just take over my city while my troops dissappear?
If yes, is the way to avoid this to set my troops in an attack (red or orange symbol) mode so they actually brake the siege and attack the enemy force? And return to the city when the battle is over? Can't say I have found an answer anywere.

There is a button that will allow a sally with all of your troops in the structure.
Top left of the button area, if I remember correctly.
They will probably end up outside at the turn end if successful, though.

I've wondering about this too; I had a small, but decent force stuck in the fort in the plains up north (don't recall the name right now) that was besieged by a small force of Indians. I wanted to try to lift the siege by attacking with the besieged force (seeing as reinforcements were too far off to reach the fort in time), but never quite found out what would bring that about.

Sallying only works if there's a relief force attacking the siegers from th eoutside at the same time, I think? Far from sure, though; haven't tested this much in my games.

I haven't done it either.

Each time either the besieged force is too small to have effect, or the approaching relief force scares off the rebs while they're still a couple of areas away.

You just have to pick the besieged stack and drop it outside the city with an attack order (orange).
On turn resolution they will engage the enemy, but i don't think they will enter the city again if victorious...
And if defeated, i´m not sure if they would retreat back to the city or to another area :bonk:

Don't know if you have connections to the developers Rafiki, but there is an absence of information about this issue both in the Manual and on the Wiki.
In other games, while there is supplies in a city, the attacker has to actually attack to conquer the place. The only way to "walk in" for the attacker should be when all supplies where up. Otherwise a battle should occur.
And of course the defender shoult be able to sally to brake the siege like arsan says is possibel. (However not having the exact outcom documentet). Agree?

Indeed. The wiki is only as good as the users make it. Hopefully, someone (me? someone else?) will take the time to update the wiki once we have gotten this clarified

AFAIK, this is how it works here too

Yup, I have yet to try Arsan's suggestion, but I'll take his word for it working like he says :)

Drop them outside with the enter structure button pressed. Might be wise to leave one unit inside the town.

I'm pretty sure, based on a recent, and ultimately doomed, experience in Fredricksburg, that the force will retreat into the city. Actually, I think it was handled by the game esxactly as it should. =

When I simply dropped them outside the sity, they had a battle, lost and retreated back into the city.

When I had them sally with a relief force, they joined the battle, lost and retreated back into the city. A few months later, they surrendered.

However, there was an oddity when this surrender occured. The Message box said I lost 43 NM points. But I didn't lose more than 5 as near as I could tell. My NM was hovering around 90 before the surrended and it was still at 90 afterwards.

the message switched NM and VP losses, fixed since 1.09 I think.
