Does being surrounded prevent retreat?

Mon Oct 22, 2007 3:13 am

This is from my other post but does being surrounded prevent a retreat? How about if you go through friendly territory and there the slit is 98% to 2% (to the other guy) and attack a force. Does that territory, even though no units are stationed there, prevent you from retreating back through it?

Also, does having ships in a river prevent the other side from crossing in that area?

The reason I am asking is that P.G.T. Beaugarde has what seems to be a path of retreat via my territory back down towards the Richmond area. I have a territory that is under my control with only a lowly militia guarding it but he just won't turn and try to go back through it and a territory across a river has nobody in it but there is a fleet stationed in the river.

His force strength started at 49 and is down to 21 and he is losing thousands of men each and every turn. I explained how I ended up cutting him off in the other thread. I since had to move a division to take care of another issue leaving only a militia unit manning an area. On this turn though I have 4 units attacking moving in on me in that area apparently to break a line of retreat for P.G.T.

I am just trying to figure out why he keeps throwing himself into a force of 99 while he is now less than half his original strength.

Never mind, if I read the darn icons at the bottom it would have told me there is no suitable path for retreat. As of Sept. I have destroyed his entire force. I noticed also that a couple of fights ago P.G.T disappeared and Longstreet was no in charge. Does that mean P.G.T is KIA?

Edit: Found P.G.T all by himself in the besiege city of Manassas which is about to fall. Poor dude keeps finding himself in one predicament after another. Of all places to go this WASN'T were he wanted to be :tournepas

Poor Longstreet (I believe that is who it was) comes into command of the remnants of an army cut off and nobody to save them with only artillarly and supplies left. He got cut down faster than butter in a microwave.

There is a message when the generals are injured in battle and are assigned to a town for recovery. You probably missed PGT's.

But, P.G.T. was an enemy general I don't think as the Union he would have read about a Confederate general being killed ... although I would like that feature and think it would be entirely historical as well, especially considering the close relationships alot of these generals had to those they fought against.

I a commanding general is killed, you will see a small black ribbon over the upper right corner of their picture in the battle report. If a non-commanding general is killed, there will be a small cross next to their symbol. If there are too many generals in the stack to display a symbol for each one in the battle report, then there can be no notification.
