Creating depots in regions with no cities

Mon Jul 02, 2007 4:23 pm

I see that it is possible to create depots in regions with no cities, and I wonder, do they provide the same kind of benefits that a city provides?

I put one in Frederick, MD once -- it worked just fine -- as a depot....I don't think it "creates" a city though.

Very, very interesting. I am assuming that would work in Birth of America as well. As the Americans, a depot tucked in an out of the way place in the mountains or wilderness could be very, very useful... :niark:

A depot with no city??? Can you?? :bonk:
I have never thought about it...
By the way... do you people create a lot of depots??
Of course they are very useful, but... It seems very costly... two supply units is a lot, a last playing as the CSA.
Whats your strategy with depots??
Cheers

I've created 2 or 3 as USA, but only in cities. That town just NW of Island #10 didn't pull enough supply for Lyon's division, which was camping out there, so I built one there. Also built a couple along the Ky border.

I would like to be able to have the ability to build forts in any region where there is a depot, regardless of whether a city is present or not.

When you first build a depot they are empty, can u send lots of waggons to fill the depot quickly,or will it fill automatically?

Has this changed since the initial release? I tried it once in 1.00 or 1.01 and the button wasn't available. I wasn't aware it had changed.

For any BOA fans out there, I just checked and you can build depots outside of cities.

they fill automatically, everything is automated. Supply wagons never give back supply to structures, only to units, this is your safeguard when in operation.

But I wonder, do depots provide shelter in winter like cities?

Yes, they provide shelter, but then so does having a bunch of supply wagons in your hex provide shelter.

this is somehow different though. With a friendly structure, you are sheltered. With friendly wagons, you are sheltered until the wagons run out of supply, and they suppress 1 hit done to your units by expanding 5 supplies, so this is a costly and short term method more often than not.
