Destroying railroads when besieged

Wed May 23, 2007 2:34 pm

My stack in Annapolis was besieged for 6-7 turns. My military control of the region dropped to only 5 percent but even then I could destroy railroad in the region. Now the problem is there was no "Destroyed railroad" icon next turn popping up on the map. I repeated the process for 3-4 turns hoping to delay Union forces from Baltimore going to Washington, but the outcome was the same - no icon
P.S McDowell stack was sitting int he region all the time. Maybe the icon was beneath him? Or maybe his force was repairing the railroad very fast? Or maybe you cannot destroy railroads when besieged?

P.S Playing 1.02 demo.

the button should have been greyed yes, I will fix that.

For the rest, I would say that McDowell is repairing it: a loyal region with some Union forces sitting and plenty of war furnitures to spend, my guess he is doing some work each turn :)

Good to know. I will concentrate on sallying out of Annapolis instead of this futile railroad trashing :cuit: . Thank you once again. :)

I've had the ai breach a railine while under siege (Lexington KY, have a major Confederate Force under Sidney Johnston cornered there), I keep repairing it every other turn (mostly to shift my supply wagons in and out of the siege lines).

Gee, I am getting confused. Maybe there is a cap on it i.e once your level of control in the region drops to 5% you can't sally out to destroy railroads anymore?

Though now that I think of it, a small Confederate cavalry force might have been moving in and out of the area in my case. I certainly had land battles during almost every turn of the siege (just ended, Sidney Johnston fought to the last man (in the trenches as there was no big final battle or surrender), time to march on Bowling Greene now).

Speaking of destroyed railroad. Is it possible to have random railroads destroyed with no forces deployed? I'm constantly seeing destroyed railroad in Missouri in Union controlled areas with high Confederate loyalty. As the cSA, I'm not sending my units north, but Quincy and St. Louis always seems to get railroads destroyed.

Nope. Not on my part. I'm sending nobody north. As the USA, the CSA always seems to burn the rail in Norfolk after they capture it. I never burn it as I plan on making a quick return. :D

Just joking with you.

Why no faith in digital download?
Come on, every one else is doing it. :niark:

This is so tempting. Well, guess I must be prejudiced. All games I bought were in boxes. They make a nice collection on the shelves in my room. Maybe give digital a second thought if shipping takes too much time.

Coming back to the topic, where are we?
1. You can destroy railroads while besieged .
2. You can destroy railroads while besieged provided you have 5% military control of the region.
3. You can't destroy railroads while besieged.

I know it is not a major topic, but when you are besieged for a long time with supplies coming to you via a harbor, in what way you can entertain yourself other than destroying those pesky railroads?

1- Sure. I already did it twice
2- I don't know as each time I had more than 5% of military control --> I don't know what happened if your are below 5%
3- No way as 1- is sure :fleb: :niark:

Hope this helps
