Back-up files

Sun May 20, 2007 6:33 am

I've noticed that in every 1861 full campaign PBEM that I host the backup folders are only created through turn 24. Is this intended? Is there any way to recover a pbem game after turn 24? Just wondering.

the backups are saving the last 24 turns, not the first 24 turns of a game. You can restore up to one year in the past (but you can't return to the present because if you restore, it overwrites the current turn)

Well technically you can create a new save game from your backup (in windows, not from the game interface), thereby keeping both your current turn and returning to an older one...

Essentially you copy all the files in the backup directory you wish to use into a new saved game directory. Alternatively you could just duplicate the entire save game file and go to the correct turn via the game interface...

quite right, I'm speaking of in games functions here, but you can do everything if you know how to manipulate files. Perhaps someone interested in programming can even do a super backup and files managment utility :)

Lucky that I have no clue of programming (scripting yes, html code yes, but anything beyond that :-(). So someone else will have to look into that kind of thing.

I'm still confused

I'm confused by this. Just for an example, say it is turn 40. Which of the backup files (labeled 1 to 24) should I use to find the turn 40 back-up files?

Should I try turn 16 (24 +16)?

I'm pretty sure the game doesn't keep overwriting turn 1 and progressively moving the old files to the next highest numbered turn every time a save is made. So it would seem improbable that I choose turn 1.

Frankly, it doesn't seem like a major programming task to label the back-up game folder with the current game turn (even after turn 24).

Please clarify.
