Is there a way to see the total troop and casualty count at any given time?

Not yet. I think this is something that the developers may be working on for a future patch.

This would be a great feature, almost essential I believe. just my two bobs worth.

I did find this, if you click any army, corp etc., then press ctrl on any force within it will give head count for every element. Better than going thru each one individually. To bad this didn't work on the AI troops, then you can size them up man to man.
