Theodore Runyon

Wed May 02, 2007 8:58 am

Just wanted to say thanks for including General Runyon as a 'generic' leader in the initial Union order of battle. I've seen him listed sometimes in the pre-Manassas OOBs as commander of the 4th Division, and then he returns to New Jersey, to disappear from the pages of Civil War history.

I sometimes wonder if he is an ancestor of mine. He does look a little like me...

Yeah. His grooming leaves something to be desired, if you ask me.

I cannot find any info on him. In fact a google search turns up this thread :tournepas

If anyone can help me find pre-war info on General Theodore Runyon, please help.

Here is the wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodore_Runyon

Here is the best so far: http://all-biographies.com/soldiers/theodore_runyon.htm

He is not in Ezra J. Warner's "Generals in Blue" !!
It sucks 'cause he is one of the July 1861 Campaign at start generals. :p leure:

This is what I'm going with:
Theodore Runyon:
-Born on October 29 1822, Newark, New Jersey, age 39
-Descended from one of the oldest families in New Jersey, of Huguenot descent
-Graduate of Yale, admitted to the bar of New Jersey in 1846, entered into practice in Newark
-Appointed by the governor to a commission to revise and codify the militia laws of the State
-Commissioned Brigadier General of New Jersey militia in 1857
