Sailors and Marines

Wed May 09, 2007 3:09 pm

What are their uses and ratings? I hope in a future patch that this info will be revealed in a mouseover tooltip when we look at them in the reinforcement or replacement views.

Marines have the "pontoneer" ability that gives the stack a speed bonus when crossing rivers. Their ratings seem to be either as good as or slightly better than regular infantry in most (all?) areas.

Dunno much about about sailors, since I've never built them. :)

Both units are less penalized when undertaking Amphibious assaults...worth considering for landings and raids :king:

Took a look at the stats now, and marines are worth the extra 2000 dollars that they cost compared to sailors :)

In my Union game that I just won, I've been pairing them with brigs, then sending lone brigs with a landing party to every unoccupied spot on the southern coastline.

Which is a lot. Brigs can navigate rivers too, and I've been able to cause a lot of havoc this way.

Godspeed
Forrest said something about killing a Yankee for each of his horses that they shot. In the last days of the war, Forrest had killed 30 of the enemy and had 30 horses shot from under him. In a brief but savage conflict, a Yankee soldier "saw glory for himself" with an opportunity to kill the famous Confederate General... Forrest killed the fellow. Making 31 Yankees personally killed, and 30 horses lost...

He remarked, "I ended the war a horse ahead."
