Two Quick Questions

Thu May 03, 2007 11:45 pm

My first question is-- what do these numbers mean? Are the strength numbers?

My second question deals with raiders. I know it was mentioned that to intercept raiders you should place a unit on top of the raider and that unit will try and intercept the other unit.

What determines whether a unit can intercept another (hide/evade values only, general maybe with good cavalry attributes, terrain)? Also, for the unit doing the intercepting, do you put that unit in attack stance?

So for this unit, what hide/evade of another unit is sure to intercept:

My units never seem to be able to intercept raiders.

Hi Allan,

Ill see what answers i can help u with.
First numbers im pretty sure ill get those right.
If u look behind the name of A.S Johnston u see (4-2-1)
First number aka 4 is initiative. The higher the higher chance he gets activated in a given turn.
Second is offensive ability and 3rd is defensive ability in battles.
After that u will see a (20/20). This is a bit of special case because the leader has to him attached most likely a art element.
First number and this goes for all the ones below too. Is the current power. Power being its combat value.
2nd number in is the max combat value. In this case its at max, but if u look below some of the units are lower than max. Its because they not at full strength or more likely they are not at 100% cohesion. Even fairly small drops in cohesion has an effect on a units current power(pwr)
So make sure to rest ur troops at times, regaining cohesion.

Second question.
Well i dont know the actual values in intercepting.
As i understand it the detect values has more to do if u see a unit and not related to actually intercepting it. I could be wrong here, but that is my experience/ logic tells.

My experience is if u trying run around with a single small cav unit pwr 15*20 or so trying to attack an enemy unit of same force. Even if u on attack posture the chances of intercepting isnt all that high from looking in the turn records. Ofc if opposing side is looking for a fight it does happen at times.

1 tactic i learned from read here on the boards is in area's u wana protect is make a continues line of miltia units and make them stay there. There entrenhc value rises over time and apparently if u have high entrench it helps intercept.
Well that tactic doesnt really help in Cav chasing raiders/cav.
Since i cant give up exact values that helps, all i can say is i do make small mobil cav forces behind my lines that run around and chase raiders. I try make them 3 4 elements strong so when i do catch the raider ill hopefully wipe it out. Eventually my forces do seem to catch them, but it can take a few turns.

Hope it helps,

Rasmus

Rasmus,

Thanks. I'm looking at some Confederate stacks in and around DC and they have like 10 generals and hardly anything else. That's a strange way of doing things.

I'll have to find out how to deal with these raiders.

Thanks for the rest of the information. That's what I figured the numbers meant, but your mentioning of how cohesion affects the numbers was something I didn't think about.

Some of the Confederate stacks are woefully low in number-- unless my intel is just giving me only a part of the story.

Alan
