Yet another 2 questions thread!

Wed May 02, 2007 5:26 pm

My 2 questions are:

1 - How do naval units spot land units? - I can imagin theres a chance of a ship close to the coast spotting a large encampment IF its NOT too far inland, but unless they landed patrols how could a ship get any more info than an estimate of size?

2 - What are the actual effects on generals getting wounded? In one battle I had 3 generals retire to nearby towns to "recover from injurys." The very next turn I could use them as if nothing had happened. Surely if they were wounded they would be out of the game for x number of weeks/months.

Sorry to sound like a moaner, these are the only 2 minor things I've been puzzled by in this wonderful simulation. This is without a doubt one of the best wargames I have ever played!

on the generals getting wounded, shouldn't there be a say 25% chance some of there abilities decrease or they gain bad special abilities (bad tempered, etc...) to emulate the fact that even though they survived the chopping off of a leg or an arm, they are not the same anymore ?

The wounded generals are actually leaders who saw their command destroyed in battle (or by weather effects, or of course if they were alone during a battle). I don't think there is an actual system to reflect anything other then fatalities during battles.

Note, it's pretty painful to have a General killed due to weather while he travels by train from one location to another (unescorted). Though I decided something similar could have happened historically, train gets stuck in a blizzard, passengers get evacuated but one elderly general dies of frostbite (his two colleagues surrendered and continued their travels two weeks later).

A ship might land a small patrol that talked to the locals ("Yeah, I think Stonewall is encamped some miles inland from here with two divisions")?
