eat your heart out Napoleon

Downloaded 4.30 a.m april 12th.completed tutorial twice.
This is the game I've waited 30 years for.
Over breakfast and too tired to play,I started campaign april 61,CSA.level very hard,ai, no fog of war.I did nothing but press end of turn.
After 18 game months the north had not captured island no.10 or Nashville and light raids on Richmond had been repulsed. My morale was on 119.
So despite being the worst President in history, the people loved me !
Today, I started campaign apl.61 very easy.
Thinking that maybe the North would let us depart in peace,I leave Sumter and merely send Texas rangers northwards ,while General Bonham moves to the Alexandria line to be historical.
Hey Presto! I have armies formed ,Generals in charge, and units rushed to Richmond and elsewhere, without orders given.
I am a President who everyone ignores.
I want Johnston guarding a hut in the Appalachians and Beauregard sunning himself on a beach in Florida, but someone put them in charge with soldiers that I have not called for.
I'm not sure if this is treason or maybe I can conquer the world while painting my fence!
I'm one of the worlds weakest games players, but I seem to have hit on a magic formula. DO NOTHING!
I think perhaps I need some guidance

Seems to me you are frustrated with some of the historical limits placed on certain troops / leaders at the start of the campaign. As I understand it the locks etc and the reason some leaders are already assigned troops is what actually happened - they were garrisoned in that place and did not have any impact on the events taking place.

It would be good though if there were no limits at all - that the troops shown on the map were all useable. Part of the fun in these games is being able to make your own choices and decisions etc, and I do wish there was an option to remove the historical limitations. It would certainly make things less confusing at times, as I end up searching for a while to find any troops I can order around. :p leure: Oh and thinking about it, it would be so good to be able to set a rally point, so troops raised in Boston for example, would, once fully trained, make their way to DC / New York etc. Would save me forgetting about troops I raised in random states! If there is an easy way of doing these things please tell me - I'm sure it's me being stupid! :bonk:

You may use 'E' and 'R' to cycle through your units which can be moved. :)

Your right Ross.I want Beauregard to call at my executive office in Richmond and as his Commander in Chief, order him to take command on the Alexandria line as happened.
Also as I requested no troops ,I would at least expect to be informed as to what troops were going to apear in their thousands in the territory where I was in executive command.
I had forgotten the E and R short cut. Very useful.
Is it possible for AGEOD to post the troops that will arrive without my Presidential permission so that I can plan accordingly?

Yes we can boost the events description, just leave us some days to flesh that, we are mostly watching for bugs and scripting problems in the events these days.
That done, AI will start to improve when the dust start to settle a bit on the forum... I can already tell you that we do plan to have a more free reign April 61 scenario, but for now the AI still need some guidance. It does a fair job when not outnumbered, but will be a bit passive and even too defensive if facing superior numbers.

I'm rather curious about the game you describe though, that the Union AI has not attempted a serious attack against Richmond in 18 months is very unsettling... Are you sure, when you fiddled with the AI checkboxes in the Options panel, that you have not checked 'No AI' by mistake? :)

Pocus.I hope you don,t get bored with all the praise coming your way,as I thankyou once again for your prompt and thoughtful reply.I will wait patiently for the time when my soldiers decide to inform me that 30-40,000 friendly troops under senior commanders have been directed to vulnerable points,so that I don,t have to rush forces to those areas myself.
Perhaps it could be phrased "sir ,before your arrival, general Lee as commander of all Confederate forces in Virginia order the following troop
concentrations.............

The AI was definitely on as there was constant shelling of forts around my coast and much milling about near the Ohio and Potomac. My surprise was that no concerted attack was launched on Memphis,Nashville,New Orleans or eastern cities from Fort Monroe or elswhere.
