I might think that the scale (province size, lacking a better term) in AACW might not be terribly user friendly at a global scale. That being said I don't know how its handled in some of the other wargames they have out as I haven't played them. That being said even with the sniping on their forums between the various WW2 games right now (HOI2 vs HOI3 vs AoD vs DH) it would be an interesting experience playing WW2 at such a tactical and strategic level not in real-time like the aforementioned games. That being said I wonder if the improved command and control possibilities opened up by radio and flight would preclude this play style. But that is likely a topic for a different thread, I'm not wanting to derail this one too terribly much more, unless thats common over here.

Pretty much every reason stated. Also though cause there is little diplomacy, I have yet to play a game where a AI can come close to a human. Stategic and combat are getting really good, but diplomacy not so much. I know this is because it is hugely complex, but its true. To many games I play either everyone ignores you as you pick off one nation after another, or they all just DoW you on the first round.
