Pecking Order for CSA Capitol

Sun Nov 06, 2011 2:01 am

I'm finishing up a game as the Union and just took Richmond (and got to 174 NM, so just shy of getting the win). Two turns after I took it, an announcement came up that the CSA moved its capitol.

OK, but N.O. is gone. So is Atlanta. So, they went to Charleston.

Does anyone know what the auto-selection order is after that? (I agree it's not likely to matter, so consider this an academic exercise!)

...I don't think that there is another city. Fairly certain that it's not possible to continue playing if you've captured Richmond, New Orleans, Atlanta, and Charleston, although I could be wrong.

Is Memphis still around? (I imagine not, since New Orleans and Atlanta have been captured...)

Memphis is still around as I didn't pursue Anaconda. So is Mobile and Montgomery (the first CSA capital) and Danville VA (the last).

Memphis is definitely an option.

I got too close to Charleston, so the CSA moved the capital yet again, this time to Mobile (Memphis was no longer available btw). So, I guess Mobile is a viable option too.

Yup, I have had that too, in fact the AI moved to Mobile in Sept 61 in one game just 'cos I blockaded Richmond.

Maybe it's random as to where to move?

No, the CSA player gets to pick where the capital goes. There are usually 3 places to move it to. AFAIK, the list always includes objective cities. I have never moved my capital when there were no objective cities left. I suppose that if there were no objective cities, then strategic cities would be next on the list for placement.

Mobile seems to be the AI's preferred choice. I have also seen a relo to Atlanta and Montgomery.
