No ammo consumption in AACW?

Sun Aug 28, 2011 5:15 am

Hi there,

I've seen a couple other posts in the other AGEOD games which says that there is no ammo consumption in the game.

Is this true for AACW as well?

Charles

You can run out of ammo in this game!

Just get into a long battle or a couple of them in one turn and see what happens. :D

Running out of ammo in this game will likely mean the destruction of the unit via capture or combat. Not good! In a combat area, running out of ammo is much worse than running out of general supply: the ammo effects are immediate (if there's a combat), while the GS effects may be spread out over time.

Did any of you checked if it was actually working lately ? :) Just see if one of your armies has less than 100% ammo at any point.

I play with 1.15 patch and most of the time, after I have had a battle, some stacks have lost ammo. It's something normal.

I don't know if it works in 1.16 Release Candidate 4a, but in 1.15 it works properly.

There is no ammo consumption in 1.16 as far as I can tell. It's an issue with the new round of patches. I only noticed it recently though. It's an easy thing to overlook.

Have never played the game in 1.16. (always felt that 1.15 was the real end product) ....... but if the above quote is true then how sad and how unrealistic and I'm glad that the majority of the the 'old guard' ended before or on 1.15 :(

Well I guess veterans deserted in the ranks :) But how come they dont read new veterans in paradox forum both Prussia and WIA Aar. You did marvelous job by the way in WiA AAR  . And you said somewhere there in WIA bug forum that ammo is unlimited.
.. And may I ask how come the core mechanic of Age engine is broken at least for one year?

Hi Baris,

I know and freely acknowledge that I am being selective with my quote.....but its not that 'veterans deserted the ranks'......If only you and others had found AGEOD in the early days when Runyan, Jabberwock, Manstein, Banks 6030, Barksdale, Mae etc were posting and playing regularly. My would you have learnt a thing or two (as I did) as to how to play AACW. Trouble is most of the orginal hardcore lovers of AACW had or have no love for conflicts such as RUS or RoP or even WiA....

What has never ceased to amaze me is the assumption that wargamers will/should like any era providing the gameplay is good....a totally daft concept. We all have our likes and dislikes over periods and conflicts which game developers would do well to continually bear in mind.

If ever AACW2 gets off the ground then I for one will return as I am sure many of the orginally devotees of AACW will do the same.......we are just awaiting the day

Happy wargaming ;)

Edited for typo errors....damn be but I'm getting old and more useless

Hello Soundoff

No old and useless :) but I tried to provoke old time veterans in a good way for having a voice ! And I hope there will be ACW 2 :) . But my intention were while trying to reach new "Femme fatale" such as Pon :w00t: that Devs doesn't neglect old time veteran's games such as Rus and Acw. They are both excellent games. And Im pretty sure they have very devoted old&new gamers but.. As Pablo Neruda said:

for I shall already have forgotten you.

If this was a boardgame series, would people play only ACW? I pretty much doubt it...

I really hope this is something that would get a quick fix?
Im currently in my first PBEM and this bug could ruin a game in some circumstances. :bonk:

I doubt AGEOD will spend the money on a patch. I too am disillusioned about certain aspects of this game. But having no ammo consumption is a massive screw-up. You can always go back to the 1.15 version. Perhaps a thread is needed as to how to roll back your patch without uninstalling and re-installing the game.

That's quite unfair. AGEOD has been patching (most of) its games extensively, and AACW has been patched quite regularly, even a couple years after it was out.

As far as this specific bug is concerned, as it applies to ALL AGEOD games, I am pretty sure it will be patched.

We are developing next patch. Stay tuned.

The only "safe way" to roll back is to do full uninstall/reinstall.

Being unfair has nothing to do with it. It's simply ROI ... return on investment. The game is old/older and spending time and money on a patch when perhaps ACW 2 might be a better venture.

These folks and thier posts are what got me hooked on the game. Aphrodite Mae and Coffee Sargent's AAR should be enshrined in the AAR Hall of Fame! Along side the AAR between you and Banks, of course ;)

The tone of the forum back then was welcoming and refreshingly civil. We've lost much when they left the forum. And the drama around the 1.16 patch was poisonous, in my opinion and likely soured some nascent "veterans."

Here's to better days.

Regards.

+1

I did my "makee-learnee" for modding on AACW, it is the game that "hooked me" into AGE....

Rise of Prussia was not a "civil" war game but it was very "civil" and pleasant with Bertram&Squarian AAR. I didn't touch the game for 1-2 months after I have bought it. It was a very obscure period of history and my knowledge/interest was tiny about 7 year wars. The gameplay/database were severly unbalanced versus ACW. but by the time I start playing and watching/reading some documentaries about the "Frederick the great" I had growing interest about the enlightment age and the personality of the King. I think Pc wargamers mission is to be more greedy about discovering obscure periods. ;) and I hope more independent teams supported by Ageod(At least to benefit from experience) to make games about obscure periods.

lodilefty, in the 1.16 thread you mention a fix to ACW.exe that would eliminate the ammo consumption bug. Can you say how soon that will be available?

I do like many other features of the 1.16 patches.

2-3 days after I get an ACW.exe from "The Master" :D
