Columbiad Artillery

Sun Aug 07, 2011 12:35 pm

Hi there,

Does "columbiad artillery" fire at ships and toops on land, or just ships? I've always understood that "coastal artillery" only fires at ships. I thought columbiad was used for ships as well, generally.

Yes any artillery except light artillery can fire at ships, according to the rules. You just have to make sure it is activated which requires a minimum of class 3 entrenchment.

Okay, but does it also fire on troops on land. I thought historically it was used in forts to fire at ships only.

Yes it fires at troops. It is not exclusively coastal artillery.

Charles,

You are right about the historic Columbiad artillery, but in game, the artillery represents heavy, less mobile, artillery. Not the actual coastal artillery the Columbiads really were. The Columbiads act just like field artillery and fire on infantry.
