Wanted to see what the Confederates took at Harpers Ferry. Actually the union set fire to some 15000 weapons in a hasty retreat across the potomac. The Confederates recovered more than 5000 usable rifles and the parts for many more. The armory'srifle-making machinery was captured intact. But all of this seems to happen on April 18. Patterson began to march on Harpers Ferry on 15 June. The Union occupied it in July. The retreating Confederates had stripped the riverside arsenal and the munitions factories and blown the railroad bridge across the Potomac.
