Looking forward to a new, and final as final can be, patch. Have taken a hiatus from the game since ver 1.13b until the various hiccups got sorted out. Very grateful to all, especially Pocus and Gray, for putting in the hours of tedious work squashing bugs. And hoping Clovis can harmonize SVF with the new patch soon thereafter.

Regards.

Hee hee. Nothing gets past you.

Are you following development of Stardock's Elemental: War of Magic? It looks promising and is now in beta 3 with a Tuesday 07 September 2010 release date.

Definitively yes, although nothing can replace a MOM ;) it is definitively a game that could be called an heir ... But they will have hard time competing with FFH and the modmods it have, my 2 eurocents...

Do we already have a changelog for the new patch?

A weird placement bug

Wed Jun 30, 2010 1:45 am

In a current PBEM, the Orphan Brigade was formed with a militia unit. According to the tooltip, it is supposed to form with the "largest army in KY or TN". It formed in KY with a militia unit, even though AS Johnston was resting in Nashville TN with an army. I am not the host, and so can not provide the files. I realize that they are working on 1.16 at this point, but thought to bring it up (since I "never" bring these things up ;) )

Just to be clear... I have the original CD of the game, which I purchased a long time ago, but have never installed. Can I install the game from the CD and then apply the 1.15 patch and be set to go? Or do I have to install any of the earlier patches first?

Thanks,
Mark

Welcome to the AGEOD forums!!! :w00t:

AFAIK, just the 1.15 patch will do it for you. :)

Patch download woes

Tue Oct 05, 2010 5:27 am

Gents,

I'm having the devil's own time trying to get the 1.15 patch downloaded.

After downloading the patch, extracting with 7zip always (after multiple attempts from multiple locations) gives me a corrupt file message, and using XP's built in tool, I get asked for a password.

Any ideas?

Edit -

The fault lies not in the stars, but in my router. I reset my router and cable modem, and all is fine.

Looking forward to getting back into ACW!

Try buying the game instead of using an illegal copy. Problem solved.

I had this problem with an AEGOD game - I cant remember whether it was ACW or WIA though, its been a while since I installed them. Basically it was the Vista security that was causing problems. After disabling the User Account Control or whatever its called the game and patch installed fine and accepted my key.

Thinking back, I'm pretty sure it was WIA.

Pocus-I sent the email, thank you.
Fusileer- I have the newest windows, not vista. The problem i was having was that once the patch was installed, i wouldnt be able to start up the game because it would give me a message saying to reenter my serial key. No matter how many times i re-entered it, it still wouldnt work.

Vista, Windows 7 = same thing more or less :) And they both use User Account Control so its worth turning it off while you try to install the game and patch and see if it works.

On my last full campaign the USA AI was quite impressive. It moved the Schwerpunkt from Maryland to the Peninsula in a way which was quite human like and - if not properly checked - may have cut off Richmond. It took me 2, instead of the usual 1 year to win the game, because the North mobilized everything they had.

But now, having played about 25 turns of a USA campaign, I noted strange things with the CSA AI. It's their preference for deep incursions that worries me. I have seen them everywhere, even as far as New York and Chicago. These incursions start out as a nuisance and end in a disaster for the Confederates when I counterattack with my much large stacks. I don't think it's a good strategy for the South. It even helps the northern player, because it gives Corps commanders the experience and successes they are lacking so much in the beginning.

Yes, Athena (the AI) has a penchant for long voyages as the CSA. One way to deal with it is to play the CSA for one turn, grab the big raid units and send them back where they'll do some good. Allow enough time for them to return before you exploit the move. You may have to move them two turns in a row, or you can just order a two turn move.

It's not the best solution I suppose, but it works.

I've had good results with setting the CSA AI to LT or COL (take your pick - COL can be daunting, IMO, what with Stax O'Doom wandering the earth) and then setting Detection to "Plus Two" ('two levels up'), Normal Agressiveness and not unimportantly, Historic Attrition for Player only - which also means that you can get Replacements only at a Depot (read the mouseover).

Not a lot of silly raiding, although Athena gets fixated on Harper's Ferry sometimes and forgets about Richmond. Any raids she does are usually "reasonable."

Start in 1862 on COL and watch A. S. Johnston come boiling out of TN with a Louisville Slugger inscribed "For Special Delivery to US Grant." The first time that happened, I was staggered to my knees.
