Corps

Fri Feb 26, 2010 6:13 pm

Does anyone regularyly use "extra" units in their corps? When I say extra, what I mean is not formed as part of a division. I was thinking in terms of Rodmans or hospitals/engineers/balloons.

Why certainly. Especially support units. The hospitals are very necessary for cohesion recovery of those hard fighting men. There have been several discussions about keeping artillery on the corps level (vs. in divisions). IIRC, the Corps artillery is the last to get hit, and therefore the safest (you can put your most precious artillery there).

Almost all of my armies have balloons, hospitals, signals but I was wondering how often players put artillery and cavalry in their Corps.

Usually, I place other units only when the divisions get full. For example, if I have no room in my divisions, then I will place units in the Corps (they can then split off to garrison towns). Also, I store units in a Corps for future division creation (usually in the next turn). I like to put extra generals (especially with the artillery trait) in there for more CPs, bonuses.

I usually don't have extra artillery floating around to stick in Corps (maybe 1 per Corps if I'm lucky). The Calvary I send as scouts, so I usually never have any units spare for Corps. Besides, as the south, you usually have enough calvary in your divisions (with the 2 inf x 1 cav brigades).

Good points. I escpecially like the idea of putting artillery officers in the Corps.

Especially Huger for the CSA (at 2-1-0, he is not very good, nor very active, and difficult to make a division with).
