AWOL: generic general and 1000's of troops.

Tue Feb 09, 2010 1:59 pm

"4th LA 'British Fusileers' has been disbanded"

No big deal I figure, reckoning units in the vicinity of New Orleans are likely to be tempted to more earthly pleasures than duty, so I tap the message to go to the location. Well both me and Sidney Johnson are fuming. Now it seems those damn Brits convinced the whole division they were embedded into, including my several batteries of artillery to the whore houses and casinos. They could have at least left behind the canons... and the general!!!! If I find him there's a hanging in order.

I'll take a gander and say either this is a bug or poorly written event message? Newest patch installed, and I'm hoping you grogs can help me fix or avoid this problem, as losing this heavy division is a major disappointment with my manpower as it is. Now I'm frightened whole corps are going to start disappearing. This is my first issue with the game, so far it's been utterly addictive.

And howdy from a newbie

Messages like that you posted above usually appear during a winter "interphase" and apply only to militia units ... to reflect the ebb and flow nature of militias.

Entire divisions, with leader, I have only seen disappear completely due to starvation [lack of supply].

Hello and welcome to the forum Stonewallis,

They need your saved game (as well as the turn before the disappearance). This will allow them to troubleshoot the problem. You can either post it on the forum, or send it to support.

Good Luck.

Thanks Jim, that I will do. And this division did not starve off as it was stationed in well fed New Orleans, and I get messages informing me of units dissolving due to lack of supplies, of which I had none in this case. Simply the only message of note for that winter turn was the disbanding of that single militia unit, which unfortunately seems to have disbanded the whole stack in which it was embedded.

PS: Apologies Scotty! But then you called me a Yank. Whereas acceptable retorts would involve for example "dirty Reb" and the sort. Ya damn Brit! :D

Hi, I'm fairly new at this too. I've seen similar messages(see attached .jpg). Needless to say, I'm not too keen on having my soldiers going home on this self awarded leave. Based on my(granted limited) experience, I've seen it happen to militia, but only certain ones. I've not seen whole armies run away. Here is a 'seat of the pants' version of what I think is happening based on some play testing of turns and going back and replaying the turn(and reading posts from Gray). I hope that people who know the actual code can confirm the guesses.

-the messages appear in January
-there is some percentage based check made by each unit on the December/January turn and in some January turns that I tested, all militia passed the test(none were disbanded)
-only certain militia(and partisans?) are vulnerable(the freely awarded ones). I think/hope that the ones that I buy are immune.
-foreign militia(even though they are in my CSA 'Q and W key' fixed/locked force cycle) are immune, though perhaps they become vulnerable once foreign intervention is triggered?
-contrary to your experience, the militia that I see disappear are solo/unattached to other units. I saw solo ones disappear, so I went back and grouped as many as I could. Those didn't dissolve. If this is shown by others to be the case, then I will be grouping and combining as many of my militia that I can in December in order to tie them to their post.
-if this line of thinking is incorrect, and ANY militia unit is vulnerable, then I will be buying fewer militia...or at least buying them only in the early part of the year so I have a greater amount of time/chance for them to upgrade before the next culling.

Granted, I didn't exhaustively test these thoughts, so more input and testing will be welcomed.
