Requesting some assistance from the veterans...

Tue Nov 03, 2009 8:12 pm

I purchased AACW after it came out but unfortunately did not have much time to get involved in gameplay due to that other bothersome "real life" issues. :D

I am now able to devote some time to the game and am very exciting to be back with AACW!

That being said, at the same time I am feeling very overwhelmed with everything going on and as a result I am limiting myself to the Shiloh scenario to get a better understanding of game mechanics.

I have a few questions that I was unable to find the answer to:

#1 - Does purchasing replacements and new units have any effect in this type of scenario? If so, where do new units show up on the game board?

#2 - Grant's army is unable to form Corps (unlike Buell's) - I believe this is because there aren't simply enough Generals for the Union?

#3 - Is there a way to rename the stack tabs? They seem to generically rename themselves when pulling elements in and out.

#4 - I have worked creating new divisions (with CSA) and Corps with their extra generals. However there appears to be limits in the elements to creating a division that sometimes are inconsistent (Some generals of equal rank seem to be able to add more elements in a division than others).

#5 - I have downloaded v1.15 patch but am unsure if there is an updated manual to reflect all the changes. I have checked the AACW101 and the wiki, but given the 1.15 changes I am unsure if those documents reflect the changes. Any guidance to essentially a novice again at this point?

#6 - Are there other scenarios that can be played besides Shiloh, Getty and Bull Run? I found on the mod pag a scenario zip but I am unsure if that is compatible with 1.15.

The scenarios are for me a very good way to practice different movements, orders and unit compositions without being overwhelmed trying to run a whole theater of operations. Any suggestions for limited practice scenarios would be greatly appreciated as well.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I'm sure you will enjoy it.

#1 - Does purchasing replacements and new units have any effect in this type of scenario? If so, where do new units show up on the game board?

In shiloh scenario it's not possible to create new units.

Replacements are used to automatically fill rank of units that suffered casualities in battle so they won't appear on the map.

#2 - Grant's army is unable to form Corps (unlike Buell's) - I believe this is because there aren't simply enough Generals for the Union?

You can create corps with a 2 stars leader (e.g. Wallace). But because Wallace is leading a division you must first disband it (select the division and click on the button with a red minus on it ).

#3 - Is there a way to rename the stack tabs? They seem to generically rename themselves when pulling elements in and out.

Left Alt key + left mouse click on the tab name will bring up a window to rename it.

#4 - I have worked creating new divisions (with CSA) and Corps with their extra generals. However there appears to be limits in the elements to creating a division that sometimes are inconsistent (Some generals of equal rank seem to be able to add more elements in a division than others).

All divisions are born equal ;) : maximum 18 elements per division. Beware, elements are not brigades. Example with Sherman division in Wallace corps :

The brigades in the division :

The elements of the division :

As far as I know there is no updated manual for this version.
I think AACW101 is still valid. Some points in the wiki are perhaps no more actual.

There is two medium scenario (24 turns) : East/West theater in 1862

Hi!
You may find this manual update very helpful
http://www.ageod-forum.com/showpost.php?p=148268&postcount=88

There you have all the game rule changes introduced on the patches.
Its not fully up to date to the last one (i guess it must be up to 1.14 or so) but it's still a great help
For the 1.15 changes you will have to check the readme that gets installed on the game folder after patching.
Regarding Bigus scenario pack, he recently updated it to be used with 1.15, so go for them!
Cheers

All -

Thanks for the answers and assistance with my questions.
I am sure I will continue to blunder around Shiloh as I continue to get a better understanding of how things work in v1.15.

I have to say that for some reason, I really like these small campaign/scenarios as the do help in working things out!

Will read the updated manual later today as well.

Thanks!!!

V/R
