Regions

Sat Aug 15, 2009 7:04 pm

When I play as the CSA, partisans show up with "State of Origin" listed as "Ozarks" or "Shenandoah Valley". I can guess that the "Ozarks" region is MO and AR, while the "Shenandoah Valley" region is that area SW of Harpers Ferry. This led me to think: what are all the "grand regions" not included in the map display, and what regions do they encompass?

Areas are defined in the Areas.ini file located in the ...ACW/GameData/... folder...

There is also an amplifying informational file named Notes on Areas&Theaters.txt file in the same folder.

Both of these files are in Notepad readable format.

I strongly suggest you make a copy of the Areas.ini file before messing with it. The game can easily be crashed with an incorrect entry in that file.

I don't know if this would strictly be a "database" mod or something more involved but it would be kinda cool if Militia's were restricted to state or maybe "Area" if that's the more straightforward way to do it. Certainly be historical at least.

Would imagine those were better represented by "volunteer" brigades. There would need to be some distinction between what one would refer to as "state troops" which rarely, if ever, left the state (and when they did were prone to enormous desertions) and what you're referring too.

I always think of the units that are recruited via the "Militia" tab as actually "volunteer" units anyway. Indeed, they thats what they are called when you bring up their description. And this is the way volunteer recruiting was actually done, by regiment.

I consider pure militia type units as those that are placed by event. They are already locked in place thus ensuring that they stay instate. I think the game models this very well already....

Because I'm tired of troubleshooting game engine changes for AACW1 and I'm not participating in that type of troubleshooting nor providing any more database support for game engine changes going forward. After 2 years, enough is enough for AACW1.

That's fine. If it's more then a database change I understand. Even if it were just a database change I wasn't requesting, certainly not demanding, anything. I offered a meager suggestion, asked for a little clarification, and at this point am just talking for the hell of it. Nothing more

That's a fair point.

Gray i have a question, what happened too the increase in divisions for either side, since Barksdale worked out the number of divisions that were fielded per side accurately, i had understood the situation that these new divisional limits would be included in the 1.14 patch or one of the following hotfixes.
Is that still the case?

No problem gray, thanks for answering the question. Was quite looking foward to the expanded divisional limit, but when the boss isnt happy the boss isnt happy.
