Depot Supply production?

Mon Jul 27, 2009 6:34 pm

I have read the Wiki and several posts but am a little confused about something with supply. From what I understand, Supply is PRODUCED in both Cities and Depots...correct? So does that mean that I can build a depot smack dab in the middle of enemy territory and have it produce supplies even though it is not connected with a friendly supply producing territory? Does it, in this case, not produce enough supply because it does not have a route to a city?

If this is correct, what is the thought behind having a depot "build and produce" supplies as opposed to simply stoting them (and therefore needing to be linked to a city somehow)?

It will produce a very small amount of supplies. If it really is in the middle of enemy territory, it will soon be taken and used as a supply conduit.

Depots help boost the supplies produced in structures...but I don't think they produce them by themselves.

Then the manual is wrong; it says depots produce 5 GS/lvl and 1 ammo/lvl.

I love sarcasm ;) . But anyway, the manual seems kinda pointless now; all the updates are on this forum. But I think putting a depot in a city increases production. I'm not sure, though.

However it does seem like cities with depots have a higher production value on average about 10 or so more then normal for towns and cities of that level
Quote General Lee Gettysburg movie,
"Do you see, General, there is the great trap, to be a good soldier you must love the army, to be a good commander you must be ready to order the death of the thing you love. We don't fear our death. But if this war goes on and on and the men die and the price gets ever high. We are prepared to lose some of us, but we are never prepared to lose all of us. We are adrift here in a sea of blood and I want it to end. I want this to be the final battle".

High level cities and harbours are the most important supply sources. Depots produce only little supply.
The base values for supply production can be found in the structure files: ACW\GameData\Structures\ (they are modified by several factors).
The supply production depends directly on the level of the structure so even if a depot produces a little supply, it's nothing against a level 10 city with harbour... :)

Just to add I have a stand alone depot just SE of FT Donelson and when I mouse over it, it says it's producing 3 supply and 1 ammo a turn.
