Capture of Capital

Sat Jul 25, 2009 5:57 pm

Can anyone tell me what effect the capture of a capital has for you and your enemy? I'm assuming a large NM loss, but can't seem to find the answer anywhere.

My experience is just the North.

I've captured Richmond and had the game go on until I took every Southern objective - March 65.

I just had a very recent game where, to be succint, I had caused a lot of casualties and outright wholesale destruction of Southern armies. When I captured Richmond in Nov 62, it was the Victory screen and I had just Nashville, New Orleans, and Richmond.

IOW, I had raised my own NM so much through the bloodletting (technically, the destruction of opposing elements) that the capture sewed it up.

So yes, NM is affected, but it's the total context that's important. My recent game was somewhat unusual for the AI - I would expect longer, rather than shorter games.

there is about a 50 national moral loss and gained when capturing national capital. not including the moral points gained through destruction of enemy units there.
Quote General Lee Gettysburg movie,
"Do you see, General, there is the great trap, to be a good soldier you must love the army, to be a good commander you must be ready to order the death of the thing you love. We don't fear our death. But if this war goes on and on and the men die and the price gets ever high. We are prepared to lose some of us, but we are never prepared to lose all of us. We are adrift here in a sea of blood and I want it to end. I want this to be the final battle".

The objectives screen will tell you the NM value of all objective cities.

Those aren't the VP values for the Objective?

It can be devastating :bonk:
As the USA, in one of my PBEMs, I lost it against Bory somewhere in early September, and with it, lost the game, also.
