Switching sides in the game

Isn't there a way to go back to the previous turn and see it from the computer's side? In other words, if playing Rebel, can't I somehow go back to the last turn and see everything and play as if I am Union? How do I do that?

I tried that, and all that happened is I went back a turn on the same side. What'd I do?

Go to the load game screen. In the top right of the area where the games are listed is a little button that says click to see AI nations. This will they display both sides of the game and you can choose which one to load at any time.
