Any chance for the 30 Years War in future?

Sat Jan 19, 2008 5:01 pm

Well, I finally downloaded the NCP demo during Xmas as I was down with a hellish flu (meaning I had time off from work).

Great...we've finally arrived to Europe and when Vainglory is finished it will include a political module, right?

Sooo...is there any chance for 30 Years War? :innocent:

I am really wondering what :innocent: :siffle: :sourcil: means!

The thirty years war is an excellent terrain for a wargame of AACW's scope. Factions aplenty, small armies, maneuvering, betrayal, lots of confusion and political events. It is a pity this conflict is not so much popular outside of Germany. Here we call it "der Dreissigjährige Krieg".

I have been looking forward to such a game for years. In fact I am not aware of a single game that has every ventured in this territory.

Conclusion: If the thirty years war is the "unannounced game with the BoA engine" I will pop a bottle of champaigne.

Forget the champagne, this is not the thema...although it is German :fleb: ... :niark:

Nevertheless I concur and love the 30YW thema. What we would like to do is to assemble a team of modders that would do:

- a map
- the order of battles for all nations
- the events
- the units and models...

Huge work, but could be done in 6-8 months by a team of motivated volunteers...if assembled, we shall do that game for you :indien:

I wouldn't be surprised if what PhilThib is saying goes for any scenario you'd like to see :)

a real challenge

Fri Feb 01, 2008 9:43 pm

I would beg for a TYW game with an AACW approach. It would be a real challenge however for the designers : they would have to take into account the religious aspects (rather easy I think but tricky for the players), incorporate about 50 states or pseudo-states (the real fun here, actually it could require special rules for every Empire town and Elector....), design EXTREME budget restrictions to portray the inefficiency of the nascent modern administrations (hard) and prepare logistics rules compared to which AACW is tolerant (sometimes entire armies purely vanished without a fight). Plus practically all Europe would have to be included and the war should last 30 years (in fact more if you want to portray the extremely rabid prolongation by the French and Spanish...). It would be nice to have all these interesting leaders and princes engaged in diplomatic interactions (and constant treasons and robberies).
I think that the current state of the system would allow a TYW game but then Pocus would no longer be at hand to offer his famous patches....
The English Civil War is interesting too but more reduced in scope and almost no diplomacy.
You can also consider the Italian Wars (1494-1540s), the complexity would be somewhere between TYW and ECW.
Actually practically all the conflicts between 1450 and 1900 are a possibility.
