Easy to Settle In?

Hey everyone! I recently bought To End All Wars, and I am very impressed. I've been looking for a game like this size and scope for awhile now. Thing is, I've never played any AGEOD games before. Throwing myself into dealing with two fronts as the Central Powers was probably a bit much for a newcomer though! Anywho, I'm familiar with Paradox's titles like EU3/4, Victoria 2, CKII, etc.

What I wanted to ask is are there any games that are a bit 'smaller' in terms of what to deal with, so its a bit easier to get into? I've heard that the games play somewhat the same, so after the initial issues of learning to play, its a tad easier. I have a deep like for 19th/early 20thcentury warfare, esp. areas like the Napoleonic Wars, Civil War, Russo-Japanese wars, etc. Though anything is usually enjoyable to me.

Glad you're enjoying TEAW. To get to know the game it was probably not such an good idea to start as the Central Powers but getting to know how to play the game is a matter of just try and try again and observe how things work and well how they won't as I myself have discovered a fair bit of times.

A smaller scale game, the only title that comes to my mind owning besides Pride of Nations which is even bigger and TEAW would be AGEOD's Rise of Prussia which covers the Seven years' war. The map covers all of Germany and some of the vicinity but with well over 1000 regions iirc which gives you a lot of manouvering possibilities. Nice about Rise of Prussia that it comes with a lot of scenarios for you to play with aside the Grand Campaign.
Something that lacks in TEAW unless you've also bought the DLC breaking the deadlock which comes with additional scenarios which are better to get the hang of the game before going for a Grand Campaign. Whilst the AGEOD games play similar they do come each their own set of challenges you'll have to learn how to deal with but that's imo the fun of it too...because what's a war without you making a huge blunder that blows any hope for victory out of the window eh

Welcome to the forum! Take a look at Wars in America (BoA2) -- I've found it the easiest of the AGEOD games to get into. Supply and production rules are very simplified, forces are vastly smaller than what you're now used to dealing with, and the map is huge. Alea Jacta Est has a similarly simple supply model. Both are great, great games. AJE is available on Steam too, if that's important to you.

Thanks to both of you! I ended up going with Wars in America- though I'll take a look at Rise of Prussia too, eventually. Both periods interest me. I was having a bit of issues getting Wars in America to run though, had to install it outside of my Program Files folder. I suppose Program Files just doesn't want to play nice with some games. Regardless, thanks again for your input.

Civil War 2 is really great also, especially if you are interested in that period.
