Done, research on small words is now enabled.

"Dug" can now be searched (not "in" though, far too common).

Actually, I think that the reputation system is worthless without the "history list of reputations" feature, because it provides no feedback to the user. The green squares just a kind of "who has the longest competition" feature, but the text that was added while giving a reputation gives valuable information to the user. He can see what people liked or disliked, maybe figure out that he was misunderstood, or notice that people agree with him, but find him not polite enough. This gives the opportunity to use this feedback to adjust behavior.

If the list also lists the names of the persons that gave the reputation, the user can approach them by PM in case there where open questions, misunderstandings and such. Moreover, the people that give the reputation know that they do not act anonymous and this might stop them from giving unreflected/stupid reputations.

If someone wants to see how this reputation lists look like, I can make a screenshot from another forum.

Beta should have at least 3 squares from the start, I add them reputation when they register. Now Hok as perhaps another policy but I don't think so.

Well, I got three to start with as a Beta tester (thank you).

But the following example I hope will indicate that the system is hardly being used to measure reputation. In fact, is this particular case, I would argue that its being used kinda like a "thought" or speech control system. Its stuff like this that makes me think the reputation thing is silly and childlike.

Poster was dinged 1 green block for the following comment:

Correction: Turn progress animation should be removed from game?

The anonomous DINGER replied:

Unnecessary negative sarcasm, AGAIN

1. I think the DINGER had no way of knowing if any sarcasm was intended AT ALL!

2. The post was probably legitimate and the poster felt the "in turn" progress indicator was REDUNDANT.

3. If there was no sarcasm and and honest opinion about the progress indicator, there is no way the statement should be NEGATIVE.

4. So one statement like this and you are 2/3 a Beta tester.

Cheers

Personally, I've stopped using it, and try to ignore it....
It was too easy to 'zap' someone I disagree with, rather than openly debate... I humbly apologize to any and all 'zapees' that I abused in my ignorant and youthful foolishness... :(

If you're not flaming or cursing or extremely rude, you are undertaking free speech. Admins are usually prompt to stop such behavior anyway. :)

But there is a second example. One that is more outrageous than the first. where the poster was labeled RUDE and ARROGANT for using a emoticon that is supplied by the SYSTEM. I repeat SUPPLIED BY THE SYSTEM.

This was the emoticon. ----> :fleb:

So in the cases I have mentioned. The anonomous DINGER was following a particular individual around and DINGING him for the FUN of it. Not a single ZAP, but multiple ZAPS, one right after another.

But see, thats what a lot of this thread has been about. Its a serious REPUTATION that is on display for all. Many people treat it as such and I have seen posts that refer to it.

BUT it is all to easy for a DINGER to harbor a grudge (no matter how petty) and follow a member around and DING his reputation to zero.

Thats exactly whats wrong with this to begin with. IMHO

Just in case, always that I use the :fleb: is always followed by a :niark: or ;) or both. So that the person understand (hopefully) that I am kidding.

IMHO this is the main use of the smilies, when you post in the fora you have not in front the other person, so in fact you have no idea of what he is understanding after reading your post

+1
That the system gives you that smile does not mean you cannot use it rudely.
In fact it can be pretty rude if you want to use it that way.
Its like letters and words. Depending on how you use it they can be nice or rude.

Hi all,

All of your comments about this system and suggestions for improving it have been taken in account.

I will discuss with Rafiki how we can implement them in order to prevent abuses from "dinger" individuals while keeping the original community regulation spirit.

If you feel you have a new suggestion or advice, please feel free to PM us.

Thank you all for your opinions and inputs. :cwboy:

Thread closed.
