What am I supposed to do now?

Tue Dec 02, 2008 4:20 pm

Mr. Rafiki, sir...?

I'm sorry to bother you, but I have some questions.

But first of all, I'm really, really honored that whoever it was, helped me to become famous and everything! That was super sweet of you, and I think you deserve a smooch! :coeurs: Has anyone ever told you that you're a sweetie?! (I'm kinda thinkin' they have, for some reason.) But if they haven't...?! Well! (more smooching:coeurs :)

Anyway. Here I am, lil' ol' me, all famous (so unexpectedly unexpectedly!) and just so suddenly invited to be a Beta vic- ...tester. It's almost more than sweet lil' me can stand! And that's 'cause of all these new buttons, and secret forums, and stuff like that.

So, I've got some questions about the new buttons and stuff.

The one that has the cute little animation of a mushroom cloud beside it, for example. The button is labled "Reprimand", and its got a dropdown combo box beside it. Can I filter the list, somehow? There are just so many names! And why is yours and Dooya's and whoever Philippe is and a couple of other people's names ghosted out?

And what's this "Post in 'fog of war' " button? And why's it ghosted out? Now, I'm guessing that its for when the blue ink is splatterin' everywhere, and people are just kinda flippin' out and saying stuff that makes red-thingy people all excited, and has little lock-lookin' dudes boogyin', and stuff like that. Or maybe I'm wrong, and its for something else...?

And what's this subforum of "Unterhalle des Uber'tars"? It looks... well, kinda creepy, and I'm sorta afraid to go in there. The little flashing red "push me!" thingy at the side doesn't help very much, I gotta say. It's sorta scary, really. (I'm kinda expecting a Microsoft-type dialogue box that says something like, "Are you sure you want to be eaten?...") No, thanks! I'm not going to push that button! (But you gotta kinda wonder, all the same.)

Anyway, I've never been famous before, and all of this new secret special stuff is just so confusing! Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance ('cause you're a sweetie!),
Aphrodite Mae

Hey that sounds quite cool news that you posted, Aphrodite. You seem like a nice cowgirl in town. What happened, why did your husband left? I hope you moved on already. :D

I've been watching Mae's... uh, progress in her game with Coffee Sergeant in the tournament, and it got me to thinking about alternative strategies for the CSA. A few nights ago, I decided to begin a game against Athena, to test out a few of my ideas.

I expected some success, but not quite to the degree that I found. I have to admit, I was starting to feel pretty smart: to all appearances, my strategy actually had Athena intimidated! Even so, I was a bit nervous: I'd cranked up the difficulty to the max, and given her max "fog of war" bonuses, extra time to think, and so on. This "new" and "super smart" Athena was quite obviously playing with a very different style... exploiting fog of war to the max... so much, that I never even saw her moving.

So I was somewhat excited that I was achieving such unexpected success, by the time I reluctantly saved the game on the first night (night before last). And I just couldn't wait to resume the game last night! Price was well supplied; and I was just a few turns away from a massive assault on St. Louis! It promised to be an exciting finale. I decided to check the AI page of Options to see if there wasn't maybe one more "make it harder" notch that I'd overlooked.

As it turned out, there was one more box to check: "Activate AI".

When Aphrodite Mae and I play AACW here at home, we turn off the AI and prepare orders for each side. It's a fun way to play, without having to use PBEM. But shutting off the AI can also lead to a much easier game against Athena than you might reasonably expect... :bonk:

:mdr:

Try this:

  • Turn off the AI.
  • Load up one side or the other (suggest South).
  • Press the Next Turn button. (Do nothing else!)
  • Keep doing this until end of game.

Dixicrat, you are not alone to jump over such incidents! :D
I'm used to disable AI when editing/modding so to speed up the turn processing phase. It's not first time I start playing with AI disabled in solo matches :bonk: !

Then, we could think over opportunity of extensive and deep planning!
I had more one time, I achived extrodinary victories in large battles.....
....just becaused I wrongly pressed end turn before having to complete my moves!

The various AGEod games need a Popup "confirmation" box when you press the "Proceed to the Next turn" button. Experienced players would know to just go back that turn and then reload it, but just recently joined player/gamers would perhaps be a little confused with just how to go about it.

Next Turn and Save Turn are very close in the interface: that the main reason behind mistakes.
I already suggested in a post, times ago, to possibly move Next Turn elsewhere.
That's of course for future AGEod games.

Aphrodite Mae, just make sure that when you're poking around the newfound dark, unlit corners of these forums, that you mind the grue. :eyebrow:
