Sweden in the GC

Mon Sep 07, 2015 6:24 pm

Has anyone managed to have Sweden come in the war in the Campaign? How is it done? France is ok and came in on que in '35 (it was already 100 percent Protestant leaning due to playing the diplomatic cards before the date)

For that matter in my current Protestant game, Denmark is still around despite the fact that its mainland forces were decisively defeated and the Hansa towns occupied (only a few forces remained in Copenhagen and the king died and the only place left on the mainland was the one at the top of the Jutland peninsula).

So you play as protestants and Denmark has been defeated. I see what has happened here.
The Danish defeat needs the HRE to hold Aalborg. I will check that to include it in the first patch. If the Danish surrender event fires the Sweden can get into the game around mid 1630.

When I played as Catholics, I normally occupied Aalborg too and then the next year the Treaty of Lubeck kicked in. However, as Catholic, I've never seen Sweden intervene either after the Treaty event. Also, does all the Danish army need to be wiped out?

No, just their cities except the capital. But do you mean that the game ends or continue for years without a Swedish intervention?

No the game continues, since national morale seems to level out at about 30 to 35 if I remember well. Even seizing Stralsund does not grant automatic victory (and I believe that it shouldn't since Denmark's defeat did not actually bring the war to an end).

Playing as Catholic, there is no Swedish intervention and no French one either. But it may have to do with the fact that the AI is literally devoid of resources after the Treaty of Lubeck event. I even switched to the Protestant side to see what was happening and the AI only had more than a 100 unspent EPs (which it sometimes used to try to entice France to join the conflict, say once every few turns and then rather uselessly) and nothing else. In Stralsund there were some of the event regiments like Mackay and so on, plus what I believe is the strong garrison force.

As Protestant, I couldn't get the Swedish event to fire (Denmark remained in play), but was able to have France intervene on cue by concentrating on playing diplomatic cards on France (no luck with either England or United Provinces). Interestingly, the Treaty of Barwalde still kicked in and worked fine.

I hope this makes sense...

Maybe there is a way around it. Since the AI, when commanding the Catholics does not move towards Alborg, thus probably breaking the chain of events that lead to the Swedish intervention. So what if Alborg is removed from being a condition for Danish defeat?

i could try with an event after capturing Kiel or any other city near Denmark. I mean to tell the AI go for AAlborg.
