Simple workaround for some crashes

Wed Jun 22, 2016 4:17 pm

In my game as France, using the latest beta patch, I ran into a recurring problem.

I Attacked the city of Berlin. When the turn resolved, I captured it. But, after everything had been resolved, I got the message that "WON has stopped working" and the game then crashed.

I tried several times to replay the turn. Same result, Berlin captured, game crashed.

Finally, I went back to the game using the "Resume" tab, after the crash. The game loaded perfectly, with all the resolutions of combat, etc, perfectly saved, including the capture of Berlin, and I was able to continue.

This might help with other crashes, as it resolved this one.

I am so glad you discovered and posted this fix. I have used this Resume feature, but do not think I have ever seen this solution posted.

Have you sent the save of the issue to Pocus? It would be better to solve the matter codewise, even though I admit your solution seems a good workaround

Some of th CTD's appear to occur after running a number of turns consecutively, and as far as I have heard, only during turn execution.

When that happens, often the turn execution has not completed, so the turn files have not changed: history file (scenario status after previous turn execution), and orders files from player(s) and AI.

When the game has been started again, what ever issue caused the CTD has been flushed with the new start of the game.

Clicking the Resume button, simply looks in the General.opt file for the last scenario loaded, and loads it. So since all orders have already been issued, by the player and the AI, when you click the Advance to next turn button, the turn execution is started again, but since the game is freshly loaded, it is likely to complete that turn execution successfully.

Sadly the save is gone, and too many turns have passed to retrieve it. Since the solution worked, I did not want to bother Pocus with it. But i do see your point.
