War between Two Allies - what can I do?

Sat May 21, 2016 2:28 pm

My allies PR has DOW RU and now I'm hit with regular VP losses for not DOW on PR. I don't want to declare war on either.

Can I degrade my way out of one (or both) of the alliance? Am GB by the way.

Any good ideas?

Declare war anyway. Nothing says you actually have to fight.

Thanks. I'd thought about that but hoped for a better option eg reduce relationships. Any other ideas?

I'm not sure, but if you are at war and don't make some kind advancement in the war, don't you lose War Score and Engagement Points?

Also, if you have a CB and do not react to it, IIRC, at some point the Defensive Treaty is broken, and you have a penalty for that too--what exactly I do not recall.

IFAIK there is no way to get out of this situation without some penalties.

Stepping back a bit to get a better overall picture of the situation, exactly when is it in your game, and exactly what treaties did/do you have with Prussia and Russia?

They were both members of the coalition and then war broke out between them. I was hoping the defensive alliance with them would be cancelled at some point as I have no interest in getting involved but its been approx 6 months and loose VP on a regular basis. I assume I should just have DOW one of them and made peace but this seems a strange way to deal with it. The defensive alliance was aimed at Fr not Pr who we consider an ally.

No, I think there is something else afoot here. I'm not expert on the rules, but I don't think one major power may simply DoW another major power. There must be a CB first.

Whether having a CB against another major power causes, or allows breaking an alliance--especially the Coalition--, I don't know, but it seems like there at least ought to be some major steps in there or at least some very loud reports of tensions.

So the real issue is not, two factions with whom I have a defensive treaty went to war with each other; what do I do now.

The real issue is, two major faction members of the coalition went to war with each other.
