New replacement system

Tue Dec 01, 2015 5:48 pm

I have read through both AARs and seen all the tutorial videos, and I have to say that the game looks amazing. My only concern is that according to AAR, the replacement system is so simplified that now it only has five categories (infantry, cavalry, artillery, supply carts and ships). And why I understand calls for simplicity (great job on battle resolution and promotion screens), I am afraid that this might be a bit too much.

I am just envisioning a scenario where one plays as GB and cannot afford many infantry replacements because of lack of troops. Because of this, maybe he/she wants to only buy elite and line infantry models to get them replaced for the main army, while ignoring militia and second rate units for time being until they mobilize their population. How can this be done now? I think that the past system was not too complicated (I mean, you would have maybe ten to twelve type of units instead of current five, but chits work in the exact same way), and it gave a lot of freedom when faced with shortages of resources. I would hate to play as GB and buy some infantry chits, just to have my militia up to full strength while maybe Highlanders are half full. Please correct me if I am wrong about the system. Why cannot we at least have the choice between two systems, like in the battle screen?

Other than this, great work. I cannot wait for the third. These are going to be two long days.

my feeling is so far it works quite well. I was surprised to have lost all the various replacement chits from some earlier games but for all the powers apart from Britain it works out.

You may need to do a bit of micro-management with GB. When you buy replacement chits make sure the units you want to recover are in passive stance and on depots - that should ensure the replacements flow where you need. In turn that makes the British army that bit more fragile, not only is it relatively elite but losses are hard to cope with. So you can't fight multiple battles in a campaign season. Would fit British actions in Spain/Portugal after 1807 when they would fight a major battle and then retire and it wasn't till after 1812 that they pressed on to exploit an advantage?

There is an informations that is not shown in the unit card, but elite cost 3 replacements, regular 2 replacements and low quality 1 replacement.
