Proposals to enhance players choice

Thu Dec 17, 2015 1:32 pm

Some ideas I want to share concerning more immersion:

1. Give us ressources not replacements at the start.

France has 30 infantry replacements at the beginning of the 1805 campaign. They get are automatically distributed during the first turn resolution phase. Why not giving the player the ressources worth the 30 infantry replacements, maybe he want to safe them or wants to by new units instead of replacements? If someone wants 30 replacements he can still have them. I can't find a reason, why to cut players choice at this point and would prefere more freedom. Even more if the old replacement system returns with the next patches. Maybe I want elite infantry instead of regular...please convert preset replacements into ressources.

2. No units names connected to generals.

The most thing I love about ageod games is reorganizing my armies. Some generals in WoN have preset unit names, if they are combined with units. If I combine Mortier with a unit (for example a Dragons Brigade) the name Garde Imperiale Infanterie appears, what obviously doesn't makes sense commanding Dragons. To not break my immersion I have to give now Mortier during the game the garde infantry. Why? Maybe I want my another general to command it. Some other Generals have preset names like centre, gauche...etc and some interestingly not. Please free them all from their preset unit name chains and give me as player more freedom to attach them to any unit.

3. Enable element name re-use

WoN has massive battles and many elements/units get wiped out. When I recruit whole new units, it would be great if the names of the previously lost elements could reappear instead of getting english generic names. I am not sure, how that actually works.

1. Just turn off automatic replacements in your game settings. I always play with manual replacements, AI is really not all that great with these.

2. Well, this is historical and most people would agree that it is a great flavor.

3. Again, historical. Regiment history and traditions were sacred in Europe during this time period. Also, renaming elements is a bit too detailed in my opinion. Units make sense, but elements are just pushing it a bit. I love AGEOD because of how historical the games are (I have a military history degree and I swear that the level of historic detail in AGEOD games beats what most historians care to gather for their books. I have rarely seen such detailed OOB in book appendices.). Still, flavor such as capturing the regimental flags (and maybe recapturing them in order to be able to rebuild the unit) would be great, but it is probably too much for this engine.

1. It is turned off, but you have a certain amount from the start turn 1- if you want or not. That could be solved better and limits choise unnecessarily.

2. It is inconsistent and prevents players choice. 25% have names connect, 25% have not and 50% are generic leaders which are now anyways in the background. The Division/Brigades should have names, but not the commanders - they might die, being promoted or dispatched to another unit. Also in the real world you would not keep your old unit name, if you are shifted as officer commanding a new unit. But a fixed name breaks that somehow, its just wrong adding a general to the 2e division 6e corps and because of the fixed general unit name attached it is written 3e divsion 4e corps. What if that Division gets destroyed, but the leader survives?

3. I don't get your point? It is aimed to improve historcal accuracy. If the Mecklenburg Husaren element gets destroyed, wouldn't it be better that this element name reappears if I buy a light prussian cav brigade instead of a generic english "hussars". At least it could be localized.
An option to rename units/elements would be awesome, tahts an even better idea. Would be just a cosmetic data entry more maybe. With corps the renaming works.
