France Rules the Waves

Wed Dec 09, 2015 2:38 pm

Please put this way down in your priority list. I accidentally got the "French Rules the Waves" script going and we decided to go forward with it since we are most likely going to restart after this patch.

So, NM drops down and France gets a bigger fleet, got that. But it's a not a very good "what if" because France doesn't have enough admirals to manage even 1/2 of the bigger fleet making the extra ships pretty much useless with the -35% modifier.

With the cost associated with it, you need to provide a few more admirals so they can manage the extra ships otherwise it's a waste.

Well they get an extra admiral which is quite good. And more ships, more replacements to fill expected osses. This is quite an understatement to say it is a waste, this fleet is mighty and even if you put some of them in harbors so the new admiral only command without penalty, the added ships are really tough and powerful.

BTW, one thing regarding the way the naval game works : playing the french I found myself bottled well and truly in my ports by blockading british fleets (Same for Villeneuve which I had brought all the way tot Cadiz). But in novembre 1806, after some squadrons had filled up, I tried my luck and massively trashed the british fleet blockading Brest and then Rochefort, as if their cohesion had really suffered from 1 year of blockading. there might be something to look at here.

They get a lot of nice ships and didn't notice the extra replacements. But these extra fleets are at Brest, right? One 3 star, one 2 Star and one 1 Star. If I make a single fleet, I get 16 command for 44 required, this is after removing the frigates, brigs, transports.

If I break into 2 fleets, I can command 27 of the 44 without penalty, which is a little more than 1/2. I can pack some more into these fleets, but the fleets quickly become anywhere from -15% to -35% depending on how much I wish to pack into them.

Yes indeed, something must be done about that...the British are supposed to have a national modifier that would do this, except that I am unsure if this work (or could work)

Thanks, I have the feeling I could take control of the sees if I wanted right now (btw it was november 1805, not 1806, sorry for the typo). So I am going to put my fleet safely back in port until the issue can be fixed, crushing the RN would ruin the game.
