Video tutorial / play-through is live

Thu Nov 19, 2015 9:55 am

Dear players,

The first episode of the tutorial (combined with a walk-through) is now uploaded here:

https://youtu.be/CmUCKpssdXQ

I would like to put emphasis on the fact that this is not just about explaining the basics. You should have fun watching the scenario chosen unfold for some turns and the comments also speak of strategy. Overall, if you have a few mn to spare, please check it!

There will be quite more videos uploaded in the next days. And a full series on the grand campaign, introducing features and speaking in general of the strategy you can apply to the game. We are still hesitant which country to show, probably France, but if there is a loud call for another country, this is doable.

Do not hesitate to post comments and questions here, in any case.

When that thread was started the game was already in beta, and in fact, had been for a while. I think asking the devs to modify the game to that extent (and to be fair, it's not a complete overhaul being requested, but still a request requiring quite a bit of modification) this late in development is a request that can expect to be turned down. I guess I've just taken silence on the part of the devs to this thread to not be a purposeful neglect, but rather a silence pointing to the obvious: "The game is practically done. Such modifications are not possible at this late date."

But maybe I'm missing something in all of this. Just my thoughts.

Out of curiosity, how much will this game cost? Will it be the typical $40 AGEOD title, or $30 like the TYW? I am asking because I am doing a (somewhat) secret Santa thing in December and can pick my first present for St. Nicholas' Day. I do not want the other person to pay more for my present than I will for her present.

Also, the video looks great. I am just wondering why Sweden is not a playable faction for the great campaign? 8 player PBEM sounds better than a 7 player one, not to mention that Sweden was a lot of fun to play in March of the Eagles which featured all eight great powers.

Are there any plans for a DLC in the future that would feature Fifth, Sixth and maybe even the Fourth Coalition? My only fear is that a possibly 500 turn long Grand Campaign might be too much for most people to commit and go through. 1812 start is well balanced and it would be around the same length as EAW campaign, which would make pbem easier to manage.

When should we expect the next video? Please do Prussia for introducing features video, it would be interesting to see how a "neutral" country fares at the start.

Please do a video about the Grand Campaign with PRUSSIA. Since Napoleon and his generals have exceptionally high stats, to me Prussia seems to be the underdog of the grand campaign. I always preferred to play the underdogs in AGEOD games (CSA in CW1 & 2, the Whites in RUS and the Republic in SCW to name a few). I fear that Napoleons army may be unstoppable, if Prussias generals have low stats. Although that might be historically correct since Prussias generals at the time were much older and more conservative tacticwise.

Very high stats for french generals would be a problem... Again sure most of the marshalls were better in 1805 than most of their counterparts, but except for a few of them, most weren't superb generals, rather they had 10/15 years of experience having risen through the ranks of the revolutionnary army and used to wield that fast and efficient tool, the french army.

To me the game would function better with the french troops having, at the beginning, traits such as "light logistical train : + 50% looting, +25% speed" and things like those. I haven't seen the precise leader stats, but guys like Ney, Augereau, Bernadotte and many more were nothing to write about themselves, Murat was fast and reckless, Lannes braved and loved but hadn't shown any spectacular strategic acumen. Really only Davout, Soult and Massena had shown autonomous efficient command, if not genius;

I don't want to relive the overwhelming cascading effect french leadership had in NCP... I suppose and hope all this will be moddable.

Lannes was very good I always thought. Eugene was vastly underated. Most of the others were solid...murat was overrated I thought. The problem was the Allied generals were often just plain bad, especially in the early years.

One thing I hope doesn't happen that has happened in other games is to nerf or over compensate to balance out french power for game play sake. I played in a few poems in cog where the French never really got anywhere because that was the case. (Not to mention that Prussia immediately joined the coalition in 1805 and then they waited on the Russians an the 1813 scenario moved up 8 years.)

Davout in my opinion was the greatest of the Marshals.

Yeah, I added Lannes and Eugene to the Vej1 list. I agree about Davout and also Massena and Soult.
