Seiges and troop purchase imbalances? and a few more

Sun Jan 25, 2015 2:52 pm

4 Questions if I may gentleman.

1) Konessiburg (sp?) in east Prussia is being sieged. Can I ship in troops via its port. I would have them set to enter the city on arrival I assume. Is It possible the RUS MP player could intercept the troops on land Before they enter the city.

2) Assuming yes for #1 what speciality troops can I send in to help the fortress city boys? A general no doubt.......would engineers help also in the defense. They have repaired one breach already.

3) Seem to be producing large amount of German forces as opposed to Austrian ones...... When does a force imbalance take affect? What is the current imbalance and what penalties are issued. Trying to see if I have gone over the threshold.....of 60% vs 40%?

4) How do you best employ alpine troops. Is it worth it placing one in each Stack to get the speed bonus.

Thanks so much guys!!

1) If you drag and drop your naval stack onto the land region, your troops will disembark in port. They will be inside the city at the start of your next turn. I have not had troops intercepted by the besieging army when disembarking in this manner (at least not in CWII).

2) Engineers will help, as well as a general with the "Fort Defender" special ability.

3) Not sure what you're asking with this question, maybe talking about the safe limit level for a fortification or city? If so, select a unit inside a structure then hover your cursor over the small target symbol in the element detail panel. It will show you the structure's safe limit.

Forts/Redoubts have s safe limit of 25*fort level.
Cities/Towns have a safe limit of 10*city level.

If you have a fortified city, the fortification safe limit level overrides the city safe limit level; i.e., troops inside a level 2 fort, which is part of a level 6 city, will have a safe limit level of 50 elements, not 60 (e.g. Brest-Litovsk)

4) This is probably a matter of personal choice. For example, if you play as EE and intend to attack into the Carpathians of eastern A-H, one alpine unit per army will definitely reduce the time to reach the next region (and the corresponding drop in cohesion suffered because of the move). When crossing clear, steppes, desert terrain, etc., you won't notice much benefit. You could invest in 2-3 alpine units then move them between attacking armies when those armies must traverse close terrain and the speed bonus would help.

Thanks guys.....

The 3rd question poorly worded indeed. What I was trying to convey was that I am producing for the central powers about 90% of the time German units. Is there not a penalty to this? If so what is the balance I should look for.

NEW question - Do engineer units bonus i.e. siege points add together ? What is the limit that is just right for sieging large fortresses?

I don't think that feature was ever implemented. I regularly burn through a majority of the French, German, or Serb pools when I play, and I don't see a change in cost other than what I create for myself through inflation.

Like traits within a stack do not add to each other. Two pioneers in a stack is as effective as one.
