Limited ammo dumps for the Austrians...

Mon Nov 17, 2014 8:07 pm

I have noticed that at the start of the Grand Campaign the Austrians only have 2 ammo dumps. Is it true that medium and heavy artillery won't fire unless there is an ammo dump in the stack?? Also, when my ammo becomes depleted do I have to manually send it back to a depot or will it automatically start to refill like general supply??

MA and HA will fire if they have ammo. You can get by without MUN units, but they act as supply for artillery, much as wagons act as complete suppliers for all units in CW2. Your artillery will continue to operate without MUN units, but at the limit MUN can be pushed into the region by the supply mechanics. Basically, MA and HA under v1.01 won't get much without a MUN to pull it, unless they're in a town or depot region. With the betas, I found it helpful to concentrate LA in corps and MA/HA in armies with MUN units assigned.

Thanks for the info Merlin. Ammo dumps cost a lot so the other key is to guard your lines of communication!

One more question: can German ammo dumps be used by their allies e.g. the Austrians??

Yes, German ammo units can be used for Austrian artillery. Munitions are expensive, but this is WAD, as major offensives in WW1 were very linked to the amount of stockpiled munitions for the artillery. Artillery makes a major difference in the effectiveness of combat, particularly in the heavily entrenched Western Front.
