Where is the replay button?

Topic. I can't find it anywhere. It's very important for PBEM. Couldn't find it from the massive manual through a quick ctrl+f either.

At least I saw some replay GUI elements in the game files, so...who knows!

We have replay, but we don't have replay button. You have to press tilde key (below esc key) to pop up text box where you write loadreplay.

quick question on that topic: which button would that be on a "German" keyboard (I am Austrian )

I already tried to hit the one below "escape" (which looks different) - and I also tried the key with the same symbol on another spot on the keyboard....

Please excuse if that is a strange question - but I am a complete PC-noob

PS: also "when" do I have to hit that button? - after I loaded a turn? or in the main menu? - I am really at a loss here...

That would be 'Ö'. You hit the button after you loaded up your turn.

Tried loadreplay meanwhile. Worked with my - ö - key, but messed up the game as the screen freezes and the seamines commenced scrolling from left to right.....

Yeah that's normal, you can just wait for the seamines to float across the screen. Pressing the space bar pauses and unpauses the replay.
