Medium vs Heavy Artillery

What is the value of Medium vs Heavy artillery. Does one come out better in all cases? What about on a cost basis? I'm having trouble knowing which to prioritize as the CP.

Too much HA will bankrupt you, and I'm pretty sure HA is also tied to gas usage. MA is a much cheaper alternative with the same trench penetration abilities. You want a few HA (I like one per army) and a ton of MA and LA.

HA is better, but like Merlin says it's very expensive. I usually try to build a few heavy artillery to put in my main stacks, but mostly focus on medium artillery so I can have a strong cohesive front.

See I guess I'm weird. Maybe it is because most of my PBEM experience has been as the Ottoman Empire (due to the peculiar but awesome nature of the one I'm in ) and the low maximum entrenchment levels of the Middle east and the Balkans but I tend to prefer to spam field artillery and keep just a few heavy artillery units for Chemical attacks. Medium artillery always seemed somewhat useless to me.

Well what is the value of Medium Artillery over a half dozen regiments of field artillery? I'm trying to be generous here, with the WSU cost of Medium being equivelant to 7 and 1/2, and that is not even accounting for the massive expense of the munitions elements needed to supply it, it would seem that medium artillery offers no benefits proportional to its costs. Heavy artillery is at least useful for siegeing forts and Chemical attacks.
