Hanging/crashing, no video but sometimes sound

I have had CW2 hang three times now. In all cases nothing I did had any effect on the display: moving the mouse or pressing keys did nothing. (The mouse still moves however). Twice out of 3 times I heard the characteristic click sound when pressing the F2..F12 keys, even though the screens were not coming up.

Once I used the instructions in the stickied thread about restoring from a backup to get back.

I did set the mouse to hardware mode, I will try it in software mode, but I dobt that has an effect.

I believe in all cases this happened after I left the PC to go to sleep on its own and I came back and woke it up.

There is interference between the game and a computer going to sleep. The game display does not come back up after the display goes to sleep. It is a known issue with the interface and the computer going to sleep. Best to avoid the computer going to sleep, as I don't think there is a way to fix that when it happens. In the other AGEOD, you will soon get a message about "burst something", and then the game will crash. You should be able to load the turn without resorting to backups (I was usually able to when this has happened to me).
