What is the mechanism for increasing 'seniority'?
The game I'm playing has modded arrival dates for leaders so my 94 generals/admirals may be different for Sept 1862 but promotion points should accrue just the same but they have been few.
Eugene Carr (132/133) :) , Lyons(3/4) Stone (79/80) Prentiss(25/30) and Grant promoted to *** (Prentiss doesnt have an upgrade) certainly Grant and Prentiss were involved in biggest victory for Union McClernand and Hurlburt got nothing. Sykes is 21/20

I'll have a look later at the 50 CSA generals.

** Holmes (5/8) ** Longstreet (3/4) *** PGT (5/6) * Ewell (10/11) M. Jeff Thomson (79/80) and ** Polk (9/4) * Price (15/14)

Its strange that some people are having problems with promotions, I just had a battle at Jefferson city and Couch who was commanding a division has been put up for promotion to a 2 star general, I have attached pics...

How many battles before that he had?

The problem is that with two about same level players the big battles and victories are about far appart as in real life or even more as we have hindsight.

Oh I will try and remember.. probably around 3 battles, I formed his division as part of a corps in the east and immediately moved them by rail west to Saint Louis...

It could be just bad luck but I have had few really big victories and nothing yet.

The big winners in my game are Grant and Prentiss who fought 2 successive defensive battles against Polk, Grant got his promotion and Prentis some seniority and an additional defense point (3-1-3) Polk has lost 5 points seniority.
Prentiss's 3-1-2 stats probably helped him perform better than his colleagues even though McLernand and Wallace could promote.
So not only getting points which seems harder but getting them to the right generals :)

Hi there guys, I have just received my turn from my most esteemed pbem opponent Durk... there has been a battle at Falmouth between Lee and McClellan... it was a decent size battle with around 60,000 men each... I won the battle and have had 4 generals put forward for promotion... first the battle..

havi & I are just at Early October 1867. I, as the Union, have not had one promo from 2* to 3*. We have had plenty of scrapping, 1.2 million casualties between us.

RebelYell is tearing his hair out in our game because he can't promo anyone to 2*.

I have played one AI game as the Union thru to Victory in late 63. I have two other Union games into late 62 or early 63. Not one single promo to 3*. If I can use Sherman or Thomas as Army Cdrs, I would stop operations and pull them out to use them as Army Cdrs. Never a reason to.

I have a CSA game where Jackson became an Army Cdr, after his auto-promo to 2*.

I have had a few instances of 1* to 2* - a handful , really.

I can only report what I observe. Something like eight separate "New Games" started - very, very few promos. Lotsa messages, few of which involve promos.

Hey I am not doubting you GS :)

It just seems odd that I seem to be getting more promotions from one battle than others get in a year or more of game time, I have plans for more big fights in the spring and summer so I will see if I can get those 2 star generals to 3 stars... at the moment I have only had Grant and Lyons promoted to 3 stars, but those generals have done the majority of the fighting...

Its an extremely long shot but Just to eliminate this possibility, did anybody who is having promotion problems here do a totally fresh install before applying the 1.04 rc4 patch?

When a patch is released I tend to do a fresh install before applying a new comprehensive patch, probably just me being OCD :)

I did not and when this game is finished I will install everything again just to be on the safe side.

Nothing to add, sadly. Bear in mind we've been very pacific in this game, only 100K casualties for me and 90K for him, by mid-64, but things have been heating up this campaigning season as I have taken Memphis and Chattanooga to go with Nashville, which I've had for a while. Plus some action in VA and down in Mississippi/New Orleans.

And the naval war, but that is irrelevant for your inquiry, I should think.

I've just got ** for 'Union' Jeff Davis earlier his commander Pope went up to ** ( he's still in direct command as no more Armies) the other Div Leader in the stack Eugene Carr (:coeurs :) also gained another point, it seems to be a trickle down effect and again Carr can't be promoted.
The 'Genetic Promotion' columns are still in the DB so they might be active?

S!

oh oh *** Pope just got killed and I messed up Davis's promotion so things are looking sticky in Missouri!
