RC5 Crash

Sat Jan 31, 2015 6:37 am

Installed RC5. Crashed in Aug 61.

Other observations:
 • The splash screen still shows RC4. I verified date of EXE (1/30) and ran patch RC5 twice just to make sure I was not running the old version
 • During some of the turn processing the screen would go black with only the cursor visible for 10 seconds. New to the game so i don't know if that is normal.

Had another crash. This was different as I was not notified by Civ2 app, but rather by a program is not responding Windows msgbox. It had just wehn I hit F11 during the turn processing.

Capt Orso in another thread advised this to correct the version number:

Go into the "..\{CW2-installation-folder}\CW2\Settings" folder.

Open System.opt in notepad.exe, or the text editor of your choice.

Change the following line:

GameVersion = 1.05 public beta RC4 (Jan13-2015)

to

GameVersion = 1.05 public beta RC5 (Jan30-2015)

Save the changes.

Re. screen going black- it's been doing that since the initial RC4 release (12/13).

One positive thing I can say about RC4 & 5 is that it has not crashed a single time on my PC. [8.1 Pro w/media center 64-bit]

Could you say what kind of options(in-game) and system specs you have? Or if you run some other software with it? Because game proves being unstable for me on a same system. So I wonder if it´s my system specs or some other thing.

It has been crashing consistently for me in both RC4 and RC5 (win7 64 bit), but it has (so far) not dimished my getting into the game.

I saw that but I wanted to keep it "as is" since I am essentially helping test out the RCs. I didn't want to change anything that the Ageod hadn't changed.

ABout the crashes:
The usual crash involves for me crashing during 2nd and exceptionally 3rd turn resolution steadily no matter what but never, ever 1st turn.

In the main log there was always this line: [Error] TGameSim.CheckForAutoPopUpMessage An error was trapped. Exception caught: Indice de liste hors limites (insert variable number here) DebugStep: 60

That was with RC4 until exe. fix.

Then I tweaked few things and it stopped and I played a whole scenario until I won a game. That was with RC5.

But then I started a new scenario and it reocured steadily when I was in game(with RC5). I keep thinking if it´s my system or some settings in-game, bad preferences or whatnot. Don´t have the logs though (started a new game after). Will supply when it happens, right now I am on a streak of 8 consequential turns again with RC5 and a new Union game.

I don;t know anything about the internal code but I swear when I look at the logs, the problem usually happen after I see ". Evans renamed from UnitDef DB to N.S. Evans". But, once again, that might not mean anything (unless they want to release the source code to me :) )

If you are in RC5, then the error message should start with "TGameSim.OnMessageDoubleClic"

This is important to give me the message in this case, so I can find this elusive bug.

System: i7 - 3777K CPU @ 3.50 GHz, 16 GB RAM, AMD Radeon 7770

In-Game: when using a beta I have Logging On, otherwise OFF, No Winter Map - OFF, CPU Sleep Mode - ON, Auto-Saved Turns - 12, Memory Usage - 75%, Textures Initialized - ON, Maximum Texture Size - Very Large, Smaller Fonts - OFF

I usually have Save Replay set to OFF, I give the AI more time, all behaviors, etc ...

I might have found the issue, if you can use this new executable to replace the old one? The launch screen will still display RC5 though, that's normal.

Darn, I downloaded the above hot fix and was going strong then I started getting TGameSim.CheckForAutoPopUpMessage An error was trapped. Exception caught: Indice de liste hors limites (22) Debug Step: 60. I played from April start and got to the turn processing 1861, Late July. It looked like the msg popped up between each unit movement.(though I can;t be certain)

I also seemed to notice that occationally when I would drag an element icon to the map for the purpose of separating and it from its unit and giving it a move command, often the instant my cursor left the until list area, the map would begin to move in that direction..usally very fast and jerk-ily. When I try to repoduce it on purpose, I can't however, during game play it definately happen several times and I can't recall it happening before.

Thanks for all efforts. Let me know if there is anything else I can do or report.

edit: Update. I restarted the game and the turn processed fine. However, beofer I processed the next turn, I was building units and I got "TListUnitDefs.Get ListUnitDefs Index out of range (Index/MaxIndex): -1 1185" It happened when I was looking at the SE region and I changed the new unit filter to Calvary (per the screen, there is no calvary) I have the logs and a save i took immeadiately after the error if you like.....

When you get the first message, can you zip the current turn and the turn before please?

Will do when I get home (USA,Eastern Standard Time).

One thing though, when I get the error message during a turn resolution, if I go back to a save right before and immeadiately rerun the turn, I have never gotten the message again and the turn appears to process perfectly.

I'm not surprised, this happens also to the players getting this bug. Can you please now use this fixed EXE, I have some hope you won't get the bug again with it. If you do get it, I would like your turns, even if I don't get the bug I would like to see what are the last messages you have in the message log for your turn. I believe this is tied to a battle message appearing when it should not.

I can confirm this, battle messages are buggy in the new version. With the new fix they appear too late, too early. You can get two message windows at once overlaying.

and the battle message will appear but the turn keeps processing behind it...

Started new game with new EXE and a April start. Got the popup 1861, Late May. Indice de liste hors limites (7) Debug Step: 60. It appears to be processing day one. The only battle in the game was that occured was on teh first turn, Sumter, and I did not see any "craziness" with it. This did not CTD, but rather just spawned several popsup and then finished processing the turn.

I zipped up the save file while the eror was still on the screen (the turn was in the middle of processing). Let me know if you want the one after I let the turn finish processing.

Happened again. I had closed out and restarted the game after the previous error msg (it did not crash, just got the error) and reloaded before the turn processed. Had no problems and continued to play a couple turns. The I got:

TGameSim.CheckForAutoPopUpMessage An error was trapped. Exception caught: Indice de liste hors limites (14) DebugStep: 60

This time I got several msgboxes and then it gave me the option to quit.

I have a save as well, but I think i hit my max filespace as it won't let me upload.

update: and then i restarted, used the save from before the turn process. I ran the turn, a battle popped up and then and got:
"THost.CheckBattle Exception caught Violation d'acces a l'adresse 004B1F10 dans le module 'CW2.exe'. Lecture de l'adresse 244D7078"

I clicked Ok and then got "THost.AbortProcess Hosting aborted while performing MakeStep:CheckBattle 13" and it went back to the main menu

Starting to think I should reinstall everything, including RC5 and latest hotpatch just in case something is corrupted.

Still at loss. No crash from your turns. No crash from an AI vs AI runthrough made of 6 turns and perhaps 25 battles overall. I have activated 'pause on battle' and 'save replay', as you in the log Donagel, but no, it won't crash.

Can you try using release candidate 6:
http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?38307

If it crashes, can you disable save replay and pause on battle and then tell me if it crashes again?
