Fleet transport bug

Fri Oct 25, 2013 5:09 pm

I notice this most in the Western OMB areas (where travel times are greatest):
  • Move a unit or stack into a fleet;
  • Move the fleet;
  • Some turns later, fleet arrives without the unit/stack! :fleb:

Tedious, having to go back and repeat the cycle, since each trip takes several turns.

Not sure those OMBs are working properly yet - supply flow also seems to be an issue:
  • (possibly related to supMaxDistanceInDays in GameLogic.opt ?)
  • (or, the implied assumption that OMBs are only sea regions involving naval units ?)

That would be weird, I don't see how the OMB can affects the fact that the unit is unloaded 'sneakily'. Post a save and backup1 if you got this phenomenon.
For the rest, that's right, if distance is too great, supply won't flow automatically.

So, is there any effective way for land forces to use the Western OMBs, since the broken supply system there is WaD?

You could always set up depot in every OMB. It is realistic in a way. If you want supply flow from Sacramento to El Paso, you would need at least 3 depots in reality.

That's what I've tried. Hasn't worked yet.

So depots in neighboring OMBs are not transmitting supply. How much time does supply wagon needs to travel from one to another OMB?

Could you post your save game, so I could see it?

45-60 days, depending (AZ vs. NM). That's why I cited the supMaxDistanceInDays parameter (which is set = 30 in my copy :sherlock :) in the OP.
Unfortunately, just increasing the value has a global effect. :bonk:
Which is why I was wondering if the OMBs are working correctly ... :siffle:

each OMB is an island in itself. To have supply moved, you'll probably need to do that manually, by moving in a replete OMB the depleted wagons you have in another OMB. We can discuss that in the beta forum though, if that's too much micro managing.

OMBs != regions

Mon Oct 28, 2013 6:55 pm

Um, OK. That's what I've been trying. But the units there still wither away, due to supply-related attrition (they never have enough cohesion to combat).

Perhaps that's the intended design? Like Afghanistan, "graveyard of empires."

Conceptually, though, isn't each OMB just another "region"? Other than the unusually large travel times between them, shouldn't they otherwise behave consistently with other "regions" (including supply flow)?

A key factore is "distance"...another is "frequency" of transports...some OMBs are connected by "long transition" link, with long travelling time between them or between them and map...this represent for instance long overland trails where journeys by wagons took for sure more than 30 days...therefore automatic supply won't travel over there...this is WAD

On regular map, adjacent regions "share" supply. A wagon in region A can supply unit in adjacent region B.

I presume when travel distance is above 30 days, this does not work?

That's how I interpret what he said. I've tried a depot in each box (including a Level 2 depot in Western AZ), and dragging half a dozen supply wagons, to no avail.
