McLellan error

Wed Jan 22, 2014 6:13 pm

Getting this message routinely: TSubUnit.GetCommand George B. McLellan has an unknown command rank: 4. Doesn't seem to matter if McLellan in a stack or on his own. Cannot form army. If in a stack a green bar appears at the bottom of the icon oriented north-south. Fukll debug files attached.

Started new game. McLellan commanding army won major victory at Bowling Green. Start of next turn got same error message. First event message states McLellan appointed Commander in Chief and moved to Washington, but he is still in place and now a 4 star. There is another thread which mentions this 4 star issue so I think this is the problem. Needs a fix because it makes the game unplayable. Full debug on but only saved one log. Played turn, got error message throughout, attaching full debug files in a reply due to file limit.

We talked about this issue and no betas got it though. Can you please give the files corresponding to the first turn you get the error, plus the backup1 folder, which are the files just before the error please?

here's backup 1 - confirm what else you need, as I'm not completely sure how to navigate through the files.

Yes, this set of files is a valid turn, October 1861. The Mclellan error is already popping in though, I would need the turn before the error. If you got me the backup1 folder, then I need backup2 folder and perhaps backup3 for good measure. You can upload the archives through wetransfer if you prefer.

included backup 2 and 3 - I think 3 will be clean, and 2 will have the error.

Got the saves, I checked within the code, this is indeed a bug. As you made McLellan fight, he gained a rank and then got promoted by script to the next rank, still keeping the rank bonus he earned from previous battle, for a total of 4. Sadly to be 100% safe here, this would need a new executable. The poor work around would be to be sure McLellan is not fighting too much or at least not winning too much here. There is also the possibility to demote him by script, just to be on the safe side.

The same thing happened to me, but there is a fix to it if you want to continue your game

1. Merge McClellan with an Army Commander stack. He will still technically be "outranked" by the 3*.
2. Dismiss the 3* leader
3. To avoid paying a penalty, immediately create a new, separate army with that dismissed commander

That should do it

Yes, but next version is 1.04, so not right now... For now, only work around will exist thus.
