Stupid Question

Wed Nov 02, 2016 1:37 am

Hey Guys,

I know this is a stupid question but I just want to make sure.

If my opponent is hosting the game, do my game settings matter?

I would not think so but I'm just checking.

Thanks

You do know there is no such thing as a stupid question. The stupid thing to do is not ask the question.
You are correct, if one of you is the host, only the host's settings matter. I am an advocate of shared hosting. That is, you make your move and send to your opponent. Your opponent makes his move, resolves and makes a new move, saving; and sends all files to you.
You do the same.

Hi Durk,

Thanks so much for the quick response. I have heard that there are no stupid questions, only stupid people. :innocent:

When you are doing the shared hosting do you change the settings before opening the turn for each different opponent?

Lets say I have three games going and all have different settings. What's the best way to manage that?

Thanks again man,

c

Ok, I am laughing, there are for sure stupid people, but they rarely ask questions.

AGEOD is very permissive with regard to multiple installs. So what I do if I have opponents who prefer different options and settings is to have different installs. For CW 2 I currently have two installs, one for hard core settings and one for more medium settings.

Okay...

First off, since you are not hosting, your game configuration settings will not affect the execution of a turn. To say that they are meaningless is however not quite correct. For example, if you have FOW turned off in your configuration, when you load the .hst file your opponent has just sent you, you will immediately quit the game, and possibly move to a new city on panic, when you see all of your opponent's units on the map  bad mojo ;)

I can't think of anything else except maybe the Traffic Rule, which would show different movement times for your stacks than during the actual turn execution.

Having one installation per opponent you are playing is like having one car for each radio station somebody in your family listens to, because your radio doesn't have buttons and you have to dial in your station every time after your son has borrowed the car and left his techno hyper trance *CHUNGA*CHunga*chUNGA*fweep*fwuuum-fwoop-fwoop* "music" at volume 9000 playing on the radio Image.

You actually only have to save a General.opt file for each opponent, and implement the correct one before starting the game and loading the .hst file.

and maybe one day Pocus will put buttons on the radio ;)

Surprising a bear with dubstep sounds like a sure way to get mauled.

Man... Swapping out an option file takes like three or four mouse clicks... Soo much work. Storage space is so cheap now days everyone should be able to afford a car/radio station for their entire family.
