The Stone God Awakens

Fri Mar 04, 2016 9:41 pm

* a snaffling of breath *
* a snort, a stirring *
* long dormant limbs flex, blood quickens, eyes open & jaws snap*
...

A snapping of chains!!!! The creature rises, smashes the boulder sealing his chamber, and strides into the wet, bedraggled den of trees and brush encircling his lair , in which he was long imprisoned by dread Circumstance and Happenstance, the evil twins against whom he has ever striven!

To behold a jet black Toshiba laptop!

"Lucy...I'm home!" he bellows.

And he's all out of chewing gum, too.

**********

IOW, I'm back!

Lotta Stuff Happened. Things are OK now, though. Still in my beloved Granite State, gainfully employed in mobile IT, furiously documenting procedures for the folks who keep Verizon and a number of other peeps up & running. Am with a lovely lady, whom I adore for her smarts & common sense (I need a Heisenberg compensator in that area), as well as beauty and affection (aw, geez, even a Creature needs some lovin' - sniff).

With two dogs in an old Victorian, even. Holy Fifties, Batman!

And ready to step forth into the hallowed ground and get back to some Live Human vs. Human action at some point. But gotta relearn The Game. Gotta buy it again, and get patched up proper.

So...any and all advice is welcome. Hope all generals, admirals, officers and men (and ladies of the Sanitary Commission) are well and prosperous.

Just in time for the weekend!

Thanks again.

I've installed the base game. Please feel free to proffer suggestions here on patching, etc., but I'm going to start another thread on the subject. I also bought Bloody Roads South. Do I want to install that before patching up?

If you would, give me some time, kind sir. Need to get back up to speed. Am playing an 1862 start right now, which is why I bought BRS; my favorite start in AACW. Also, an April 61 start, for re-education.

Welcome back!

Not much has happened...just the time transporter upgrade that allows a player to actully be there. A small change really.

When looking for a game only say you are willing to play either side if you want to play the Union; everyone and their dead grandmother wants to play the South.

It is bugged. Lincoln fires me every time I try to take command and Jackson puts me on latrine duty if I even so much as look at him.

* Well, I was 0-2 as the Union in AACW PbeM, 0-2 as the South. I won one against havi in CW2 (an AAR, IIRC) as the Union - in 1866, very, very narrowly. Helluva game on both sides.

* Don't look at TJ. Just don't do it.

Yes, basically, it was a tie. Technically, a win, albeit about as narrow as you could get.

I'm training up right now, remembering some things, shaking the rust off. I might feel inclined for a rematch, havi, sooner rather than later.

I'll never forget that series of battles for Richmond in 1865. Blood spilled into the James until the gods cried for mercy.

And the magic Save from Valahalla (not a file save), wherein the Rebs were left with a baker's assistant and a deaf hospital orderly - but R E Lee rallied them and stood off two Corps.

UN BE LEE VA BULL

Still, Stuff Happens. A highly entertaining and informative game- back in the early days of CW2. There's an AAR, I think...

Does anyone know where this AAR might be? I cannot seem to locate it.
I have heard, in such a way as to believe it, of your recently saying that both the army and the government needed a dictator. Of course it was not for this, but in spite of it, that I have given you the command. Only those generals who gain success can be dictators. What I now ask of you is military success, and I will risk the dictatorship.

I am mistaken. Apparently there is none. My apologies.

One helluva game, though. havi was new to AGEOD in general, I believe. He slipped up a bit early, kinda let KY go too easily, but learned fast. I was still trying to take Nashville in '63, when I finally woke up and applied 'He can't be everywhere in strength at once,' and skeedaddled for Memphis with a couple of Grant's Corps. A ding-dong fight, but the Good Guys won.

Forced R E Lee & Co. into Richmond and had a whale of a fight - cut off, miserable, surrounded, the Rebs fought like tigers. Never did take Richmond, havi held it to the end.

The crux at the end was taking Charleston - havi sniffed it out and sent a goodly force to intercept, but Schenk just got into the region with a Corps and beat off a furious assault - the Swamp terrain helped, I daresay.

By mid-65 I was finally ahead on VPs with a net gain per Turn on havi, by about 25 points, IIRC. Ran out the clock to Jan 66.

67 - 65, North, & the Union had won the Super Bowl.

havi is a very dangerous counter-puncher. I'm sure he's only gotten better with time.

http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?34901-Some-more-Observations-from-a-Union-PbeM there is a little bit of aar for him who missed it. No I'm not good at all i allways got my ass kicked and now I'm been off the game for a while, but when I saw that old Maine rock was waiked I was intrested. Btw I have noticed that in Kentucky is my second nemesis too who is helping me get my rust off. And mr. Granite if I remember right you were good advisory and great gentleman when we played.. And a good friend.

Y'know, havi, I've done four Turns in a '62 start as the Union & I'm already itchin' for PbeM. Amazing what starts to come back so quickly.

A gauntlet thrown before the court, my friend - how about an 1862 start? Think of it as a soccer match - CSA is down 1-0 after twenty minutes. Plenty of time left.

And don't forget - the Army of the Potomac has McClellan in command. I'll even propose no relief of McClellan before the Late Oct 62 Turn (historical).
