We're going to need a bigger army...

I was wondering about the max size a single stack under Grant might be. By pressing the "7" key and cursoring over a clear region with clear weather, I got numbers like 49 combat and 19 support elements. Due to the frontage rule, Grant (6-7-6 in my test) gets a bonus of an extra 62 combat and 25 support elements in Offensive mode.

"In open terrain only (clear/prairie/desert/wood), the Units Quotas are modified by leader (rank)*(offensive/defensive rating) depending whether in offensive or defensive posture:

Combat Units Quota: (+25 points)*[(rank)]+(off/def rating)]
Support Units Quota: (+10 points)*[(rank)]+(off/def rating)] "

So, just to be sure, I put 12 infantry Divisions and three artillery Divisions in one stack under Grant's sole command and attacked to see what would happen. In the battle log, he had 101 combat elements and 40 support elements to use. That would be almost exactly 6 infantry and about 3 artillery Divisions. This would require 36 CP's, quite a bit more than Grant gets. Thus, to offset the 35% penalty for lack of CP's, a maxed out stack for Grant (and probably Lee) would be the above force I used of nearly 15 Divisions with a power of over 8k.

Que the big white shark.

Even if you spread your divisions out into corps in Grant's army, you should still get his frontage allowance if he is in overall command of the battle. Once his stack is full, put the rest of the divisions in a subordinate corps under Sherman/Hancock etc. If they're in the same Region, MTSG should be nearly instantaneous

I'm not entirely sure this is what would happen.

"This concept covers the first stack picked. What about the next? If the stack is already engaged by an enemy, it will fight back against him, and that's it."

This sounds like each stack fights for itself. All of the combat descriptions are of one stack attacking another. So my army stack might fight one stack and the Corps stack another. Also, MTSG is not automatic and with the new traffic rule, not all of the stacks may get to the battle. One stack would always get there and always fight the same opponent. I would march to the Objective Rally Point in a nearby region dispersed into separate stacks to avoid the slowness of 35% CP penalty, but then assemble into one stack and attack concentrated.
